MEXICAN FLEABANE ..... and my MEXICAN wedding dress circa 1976 !!! ..........

Mexican Fleabane ..... Erigeron Karvinskianus !!!!

Such a good little plant ..... doesn't seem to mind where you put it ..... sun or shade it seems to thrive which is great in our North facing garden !!!

I stuck this left over bit in the wall this year .....

We have some steps like this SO, I'm going to plant some in our steps today and hope they will start to look like the above !!!

All of this talk about Mexican Fleabane reminded me about my wedding dress. We got married in 1976 ..... that hot, hot, dry Summer ..... I was working in Mount Street in Mayfair, London at the time .....

In Lower Sloane Street was a shop called Mexicana { I couldn't find a photograph of the shop anywhere on the Internet } It was run by Alfredo Bouret who had previously worked as a fashion illustrator for Coco Chanel, Dior, Pierre Balmain, Valentino and Balenciaga. His inspiration was Mexican fashion and culture. NOW ..... before I show you my wedding dress just remember it was 41 years ago so don't laugh !!!!! .........

TA DAH !!!!

I bought it with my own money ..... I think it cost about £90 which was a fair bit in 1976..... I just looked it up ..... it would be £700 now ..... that's not that expensive is it, considering the average that someone spends on a wedding dress is £1,000.

What on earth would Donald Trump think of me ?!!!!

UPDATE for Cro !!!

  1. The urn in my garden that I planted with succulents (after seeing a similar urn in your garden) is now doing well. In fact it now looks exactly how I wanted it. We used to have those daisy like flowers on the brick steps, but they seem to have disappeared. I'm not good with flowers, and they know it.

    1. I'm so pleased that your urn is looking good Cro ..... it takes a few years to establish itself. I'll pop out and take a photograph of mine and put it at the end of my post so you can compare !!!! XXXX

  4. Your wedding gown was awesome Jackie - such beautiful heavy lace, must have draped so well, and those bell sleeves are trending again now. I'm always surprised at the strapless styles many brides wear nowadays - their dresses are more like fancy evening gowns and often they seem to struggle to keep them up once the dancing starts at the reception!

I just viewed Alfredo Bouret's very interesting Youtube video and loved it - I see Princess Anne in a dress similar to yours, and apparently many Royals ordered from him, including Princess Diana who took two of his dresses on her honeymoon! What a nice man he seems and living in Australia now.

The fleabane is very pretty - anything daisy-like is lovely in the garden.
Have a happy week - Mary

    1. Hi Mary ..... when I bought my wedding dress, I didn't have a clue about Alfredo Bouret and I don't think I knew that royalty and the famous bought from him .... I just liked the dress !!! It was only recently that I found out about him. I used to love corsets ( can't wear them now that the skin has gone all floppy , but they don't seem right as wedding dresses. Our daughter-in-law wore a very simple, long dress when she married our son and it was beautiful.
I am loving the Mexican fleabane .... I might buy some more !!! Enjoy your lovely weather Mary ..... it's gorgeous here today. XXXX

  5. I love the dress. Two of my brothers got married in the early 1970s and their brides made their own dresses, as was quite the thing in those times, to save money! I agree with Mary above, about the strapless style. I think that they are at last going a bit out of fashion and nice sleeves and necklines are coming back!

  6. Hi Rachel .... am watching the Tour as I type !!!
As I said to Mary, I think the strapless dresses have had their day ... and, often, they are worn by the more voluptuous and don't look so good !! And as Mary said, they are forever pulling them up as they don't seem to fit so well !! XXXX

    1. Hi Janie ..... when we look back things look so dated but I think the style of my wedding dress is back in fashion. I am sure that you looked lovely on your wedding day in your blue, flowery dress ... it's all relative to what was in fashion at the time. XXXX

  16. Your wedding dress was beautiful Jackie, very romantic! And still very much in vogue today!! Do you still have it? My mum made my dress and I embroidered the front of it, at the bust area, with white silk thread and pearls to match my hair piece (no veil) which was clipped to my hair.
    Greetings Maria x

I do still have my wedding dress in a box at the top of the wardrobe !!! Yours sounds so pretty and how lovely that your mum made it and that you embroidered it. It was all so long ago for both of us wasn't it ? Lots of love to you ..... I hope you are putting your feet up ?!!!! XXXX

  18. That's an amazing wedding dress. It may look old-fashioned now but it's beautiful.

Mexican Fleabane is pretty. But we only have two steps in our back garden, so probably not worth cultivating it!
