LAMPLIGHT ..........

Laying in bed this morning, fiddling with my dandelion seed heads as you do on an autumn morning, inspiration was at a premium. Then, I thought, I could do table lamps and it would be a bit of a cheat as I can show rooms at the same time so, here we go ..........
One of my favourite pictures, old lace and a beautiful Edwardian lamp..........

.......... a simple lamp but what fantastic shutters and a wonderful view .........

Another simple table lamp in a gorgeous cottage setting ..........

They've gone a bit mad with their lamps in this one, haven't they ? A lovely room though..........

Isn't this a great idea ? Can I class these as table lamps ? ..........

.......... love this one, not just for the great industrial type lamp, but also for the lovely distressed shutter.

.......... the trouble with this one is the flex....it doesn't do it any favours. It's one of the problems of table lamps..........

.......... this is so pretty. Lovely distressed bedside table and a fresh bunch of flowers from the garden.

Do you think that I'm obsessed with distressed furniture ? Well, I am !! Isn't this wonderful ? I love the table, the door, the glass dome, the plants........ oh, and of course, the lamps.

Well, we have come a long way from the time when we lit the lamp to find our way to bed. We are in a new phase now, where we are going to have to use energy saving light bulbs. Maybe, in a few years we will be back to candlelight .......... maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing ?

  2. Hmm, I wouldn't mind a return to candlelight at all! The Edwardian lamp is the next best thing though, especially next to that beautiful lace. Have a happy Monday, Jackie!

  4. What a fun post and love seeing another angle of my header photo. I would prefer candlelight to required lightbulbs of weird colour and possible risk.

  5. Oh, Jackie, you´ve done it again...
    Your images are gorgeous.
I love the one with that door...I would love to have such a door, just leaning to the wall.
    Some day...

In Stockholm, it´s almost impossible to get a normal light bulb, and the energy saving ones are sooo expensive... but they promise to last for 8 years!

Maby your thought is correct, what if we go back in time?
I agree it wouldn´t be that bad, would it?

    Wish you a great day.
    Hugs from Sweden.

  8. Jackie,

Jackie, Thanks for the inspiration. I admit to being lamp-challenged. Here in the room where I'm typing away I have an eccletic assortment of lighting-a Ikea Japanese style paper floor lamp, a desk lamp made from an old Chinese tea tin, and a lamp with wicker base and triangle shade bought at the local op shop for $10.

  9. That industrial lamp with those old shutters--that's right up my alley. My husband calls my style "industrial barn chic." I don't know about the chic part, but he's right about the other two!

Love this post, Jackie! You always, always inspire me. xoxo

  13. Jacqueline,

I also love lamps and over the years have had my share of them...it seems I am always changing them though. I am also a fan of distressed shutters, furniture, or anything distressed for that matter. Of all the photos, I love the kitchen photo with that gorgeous farmhouse sink!!

  14. Dear Jacqueline,
Your post are always like coming HOME to me. It is so interesting to me how someone {whom I have never met ever} can capture every single detail that I know and love like HOME...Beautiful post! My favorite image is the one with too many lamps:)

  15. Ah, dandelion seed heads, where would we be without them first thing in the morning? What a lovely collection of lamps, and I'd go for the mini industrial one if I had to choose. I love the way you do glossy magazine images with your own funny and idiosyncratic text rather than the boring old glossy magazine commentary.

  16. Bonjour Jacqueline! This is a beautiful post. You are so right, the right lamp can transform a room. The lamps over the sink was very unique!

  17. Lighting is probably the MOST important element in a room. I think sometimes that's the only reason I like my shop. You can have "crap" but if you light it right it looks like a million dollars. We use energy eff. bulbs in the back room and they look awful...very yellowy or something.
Love all the rustic rooms with exposed beams....I'd take that over a palace anyday!
take care homegirl! oh sorry... mum!:)

  22. Jackie,
I have had dandelions on my mind all weekend since my very talented sister-n-law announced the name of her new cd, "Dixie Dandelion". My beyond talented husband will be painting the cover art, so the first image made my mind do a bit of a dance! And then you see, since I seem to be surrounded by such talented people (including all these amazing blog talents such as yourself), then a lightbulb went off in my head that YES, lamps are stunning, but I will do my best to conserve energy and decorate with lamps, but light the home with candles! What a compromise, non?
    Happy week to you!

  27. Hi Jackie - Love the lamps over the butler sink...I have actually always had some sort of table/anglepoise lamp in my kitchen over the years and a friend in Oz did the same... however many spotlights/downlights you have, there never seems to be QUITE the right light on the exact thing you need it to be...! I'm with you on the distressed furniture too...the only problem I have is not crossing that fine line where distressed can become tragic (if you know what I mean!!) Thanks for visiting again - have a great week, Warm wishes, Susie x

  28. So gorgeous and you are more than welcome, Darling.

I seriously have to have a Jacqueline bookmark under my interiors tab, then I would have to search out all your other bookmarks and add them to the mix. You always pick pages I would rip out if I had one of those scrapbooks.

Thank you for contributing to my future decor, God willing.

I adore the chateau (mad lamp) room, the sink lamps is a genius idea, decadent and practical, how very rare.

I also like ... all of it! One day I need to pick your brain and find out how you discover these things, you're like a pretty magpie of good taste.

  30. I have to say.........if I could find a table like that one - with the rustic door in the background - I wouldn't know what to do with myself! I have yet to SEE a table like that-

why don't you just make your own lamps like those? out of old balisters?

  31. Your obsession with faded furniture and lamps is a winner with me.
This may sound bad...but i hate those energy saving bulbs! They are so ugly!! I do use them in the lights that we never use, but I still use Edison bulbs in the two lounge room lamps as I can't seem to replicate that light with energy saving globes...and I use loads of candles so I guess that makes up for the 2 normal globes =0)

  45. I greatly fear the coming of those ghostly, greenish light the eco-friendly bulbs give off. I'm voting for candlelight -- nothing could be kinder.

Once again, I'm enchanted by your themes and your taste. Distressed furniture and objects, how divine.
