JACK { IE } & JILL ..........

John Gray, over at Going Gently, said that, at the moment, Facebook is asking people to post old photographs 0f themselves and why doesn't Blogger do the same. He has posted an old photograph of himself and his sister so, I thought that I would join in and post one of me and my sister..... topless !!!

My sister Jill, and me, up against the coal shed .... {no rude jokes please} !!!!!  God only knows what we are wearing but I presume they are the knickers that were ' en vogue ' at the time ..... they are SO big for us both ..... I think that I'd have a job to fill them now .... as in my body .... I'm not incontinent .... yet !!!! I like to think that my lingerie collection has improved somewhat !! I'm on the left by the way. My feet and knees look filthy and we look as if we could do with fattening up a bit !!

Happy, carefree days !!

Perhaps we could get bloggers of the world to all post their vintage equivalent of a selfie ?

  1. Such a vivid photo, Jackie! So you are a younger sister - how much older is she? I think it is the normal, non-fat way one looks at that age. And with that goes hand in hand: adventurousness - manifesting itself in a bit scratched knees.

  2. Oh how wonderful you had the guts to post this shot of you and your sis as kids Jackie! Lovely slim, leggy girls, and don't feel bad, I recall having knickers just like those, do you think our mums sewed them up for us? Of course in England we stripped down to the minimum whenever the sun came out and it went above 50F - probably once a year - and there I was in a seaside resort in the warmest part of Britain (Devon). I recall the 'visitors' in their plastic macs, walking around town licking ice cream cones in the incessant rain of some so-called summers!
Icy storm here for the past 24 hrs., now a little snow on top - Eastern US just north of us getting really zapped, up to 3 feet in Washington, D.C.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. This is a good one Mary !!!!! ....... I have many even worse ones of me, especially the ones in swimming costumes !!! I think all girls in the late 1950's had knickers like that !!!!
..... and you are right, as soon as the sun came out, the clothes came off !!! XXXX

  3. Those knickers look like what we wore over our knickers but under a dress. For PE we had a pair that matched our gym tunics. Otherwise I only remember very little girls wearing them. You and your sister were quite unalike then but both so engaging.

    1. I think that you're being very kind Shawn .... I like to think that I have improved with age !!!!! Jill and I are unalike in colouring .... I favour our Dad being fair and my sister our mum being darker in colouring but, our mannerisms are exactly the same.Thank you so much for your regular comments Shawn. I am reluctant to join Google + because I don't want people to be linked there .... I think that's what happens. XXXX

  4. Your legs look like those of an athlete Jackie, a tomboy look of fun. At the moment I only have school photos because my brother ran off with the family photos. I am trying to get them back. This is a great photo; it tells more than a school photo. xx

    1. I was athletic Rachel and was in all of the sport's teams at school { following in my Dad's footsteps } and, I was a tomboy. I have lots of photos of me looking like a boy. Hope you get your photos back because, as you say, they say a lot more than school photograph's. XXXX

  7. What was going on at that time, I'm sure somewhere there is a photo of me in a vest a navy blue school knickers and I'm sure you will remember those awful things. I used to to shove my hankie up my knicker leg. I can remember a posh girl in my class who had a pocket on her knickers for her hankie.

    1. I do remember my navy blue school knickers Barbara { I think that they were slightly better than the ones I have on in the above photograph !! } ..... and I also envied the girls who had a pocket in their knickers ..... I never had a pair with a pocket either !! XXXX

  8. I can't believe those baggy knickers were ever the height of fashion, but then fashion was very different in those days. Lingerie has evolved dramatically since then! Can't remember what sort of knickers I wore at that age. No doubt just as bizarre. I don't have any surviving childhood photos at all.

    1. Oh Nick ...... what a shame that you don't have any surviving childhood photographs. Looking at all the comments on the blogs that have shared an old photograph of themselves, it seems that there are lots of people who haven't got any. Because we have lots, I guess I just thought that everybody had them. I don't think that those baggy knickers had much to do with fashion ..... I think that they were the only type that were available !!! XXXX

  10. Sweet picture. It reminds me of pictures of me and my sister - we were all skinny little things with chopped-off hair in those days. You look so happy - as you should have been.

  14. How absolutely adorable, Jackie!
I remember going shirtless once - I was climbing a tree with a friend. We were going shirtless because we were upset that in the hot summer only boys were allowed to - hell with them, we said (we were 7 and 6 or something like that!) xox

  16. Hello Jackie,
Two beautiful young girls living life to the fullest. You are right, we did go topless and it was difficult to tell the boys from the girls. We had a Dairy/Poutry Farmer as our neighbour in Ireland who was quick witted and original and when he first saw the rockers with long hair he said. "Sure you'd have to turn some of them upside down to see if they were a boy or a girl".
    Have a great week

    Helen xx

  17. Dear Jackie, this is such a wonderful photo or you both. I so love old photos and others' memories. What the coal shed part of your home or a school or what?

Funny, Mary was also talking about those horrid big undies you girls ahd to wear back then. Oh my! her own photo bought back many stories that I then wrote down over there. So, after she has published them, you will have to go over to A Breath of Fresh Air to read them if you like. Such a different world then. Wonderful at times, innocent almost, but hard.

As it turns out, my older sis jsut found a few pics of me as a teenager which suprised me no end as I thoguht there were no photos of me either--from the 70's and 80's due to too many floods and moves over the years for my mother. I must post one for this blog theme but will wait a few more days since I jsut wrote a rather lengthy post on my b'day and getting older. :)

    1. I love looking at other people's old photographs too Michael. Lot's of the blogs that I follow have been doing it recently. I have some really horrendous ones of me !!!!!
We had open coal fires and the coal was kept in a shed in the back garden ..... God, I sound as if I lived in Victorian times !!!! We used to have to take the coal scuttle and fill it with coal from the shed.
I look forward to seeing some of your photos !
      Belated Birthday greetings. XXXX

  18. Oh how darling!!!!! You two are so cute! I love that you only have your knickers on, because that is how my girls were. I could hardly get them to wear clothes in the summer when they were young. Me on the other hand, grew up in the city so I had to be fully dressed before mom would let me out the door.

I was totally opposite of you Jackie, in that I was so chubby that you couldn't see my knees. I was that way clear up until junior high school, when I finally got tall enough to stretch out my fat rolls :)))) Thank goodness!
Maybe I will post a photo of me when I was little soon on the blog.
Loved that your sister's name was Jill!
I hope you have the best week dear friend!
    much love!!!
