I'm not a great lover of Charlie Chaplin but, I do love the song ' Smile ' that he wrote. Covered by so many artists such as Nat King Cole, Barbara Streisand, Michael Bublé, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Josh Groban, Judy Garland, Diana Ross .. even Eric Clapton to name but nine versions but, I really like the John Barry instrumental and the John Barry/Robert Downey Jr. versions from the soundtrack of the film 'Chaplin'
Press play, have a little listen, scroll down whilst it's playing and perhaps have a smile on this sunny Sunday …..

That baby in the tin bath, big smile. Dog being washed, chuckle.

I loved those images …. my favourite is the little one walking the dog and jumping in the puddles !! It's a shame you couldn't play the music …. it does add to the experience, so to speak { even though it's not a major experience !! } XXXX
DeleteDearest Jackie,

Madelief x
Hi Madelief,
DeleteI am so pleased that you listened to the music …. I don't think that many do but it is a lovely version of Smile isn't it?
Hope that there were some smiles over the weekend …. I'm sure that there were. Was thinking of you. Sending love from England. XXXX
That's a beautiful song, and I love the way you used videos and photos in your post.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Hi Janie …… yes, it is a beautiful song and, very poignant and John Barrys version is very haunting.
DeleteHave a lovely week Janie. XXXX
Jackie,
ReplyDeleteI just sent an e-mail but don't know if it went through. I love this song and the video's you are showing in this post...it brightened my day. I love this song as much as "Cheek to Cheek" with Fred Astaire who is dancing/gliding with Ginger Rodgers while singing this song. Sigh...I could listen to it all day! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOYzFKizikU
Hi Kristie,
DeleteI didn't receive an email …… give it another try !!
I grew up watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films as my Mum loved them so, the music brings back many childhood memories. XXXX
Dear Jackie,
ReplyDeleteI'm no great Chaplin fan either (and the lady on the little video neither - maybe for the same reasons :-), but I wanted to hear the song. Both are not available here in Germany - so I look at the funny video of the dog and its owner, and the vivid old man dancing. Thank you! Britta XXX
Hi Britta …. I hope that you managed to hear the music. I love that particular arrangement of it.
DeleteHope you are well Britta and having a lovely week. XXXX
Thank you sooooooo much, dear Jackie.........your words are such a gift for me! Lets have a chocolate cake ;) and have a wonderful weekend, dear friend,
ReplyDeletehugs Jade
PS: Today it is very hot in Bavaria so maybe I´ll take some chocolate ice instead of cake ;)
Hi Jade,
DeleteOur weather is up and down …. today we had black skies, pouring rain and very cold and then, within half an hour, clear blue skies and quite warm. I think that I shall have both chocolate cake AND a choc-ice !!!! XXXX
Jackie, this is wonderful, have to come back and see again. Yvonne
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne …… hope that the wedding was wonderful. I hope that one of you will have some photos up on your blog. XXXX
DeleteThe joy in living life to its fullest. Such sweet photos, they added a smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fall !
Xx
Dore
Happy Autumn to you too Dore ….. keep smiling !! XXXX
DeleteWhat a lovely post... i shall be smiling all day! :-) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb and thanks for your lovely comment.
DeleteHave a smiley weekend !! XXXX
I had no idea that CC had written the music to this lovely song. In its quiet way I suppose it's up amongst my favourites both for the music and lyrics. Cro x
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't either Cro.Apparently, he wrote the music for all of his films. There are so many different versions of it as you probably know. Of course, I love the Nat King Cole version but I think the John Barry and Robert Downey Jr. ones have such a haunting quality. His life of poverty as a child in London probably influenced the lyrics and music for ' Smile '. XXXX
DeleteDowney Jr. is so adorable and talented. Thank you so much for this wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteI loved it all. yvonne
Thanks Yvonne ……. I love Robert Downey Jr. too …… there's something of the little boy about him. XXXX
