Our By Invitation task this month is to share our thoughts on a piece of clothing that we know will serve us in good
stead this Autumn.
Here is mine …..
It's my All Saints Nia coat.
Autumn/Winter is my time, fashion wise. I LOVE coats, jackets and boots so, I'm in my element as soon as Autumn sets in and set in it has !! There's not much to say about my coat apart from how much I love it …… shallow, I know, but there you are. I love the handkerchief hem and all of that pleating. Alexander McQueen had a similar one in his collection but was a great deal more expensive and I like mine more !!!!
….. and, finally, last years picture of me in my pork pie hat that always comes out at this time of year !!
For more Autumn fashion inspiration, please visit Marsha to be transported to all of the By Invitation contributors.
HAPPY AUTUMN

That is a gorgeous coat Jackie...I can see what you mean about it reminding you of McQueen....SJP wore her black McQueen coat to his memorial service & they are almost identical - yours reminded me immediately of hers!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding the perfect Chelsea boots!!!
Hope you & your family are well Xx
Yes Simone …. I remember SJP wearing her coat to his memorial device …. also Kate Middleton for one in cream to Trooping the Colour …… I'm not quite in their league though !!!!
DeleteI'm off now to hunt out my perfect Chelsea Boot …. I've already been looking at some of the shops that you suggested….. blogging can be really helpful, can't it ?!!
Wishing you and your family a lovely week. XXXX
Love your coat JackIe...!.wonderful.....love from me Ria...x!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ria …… Happy Autumn and love from me too !! XXXX
DeleteThe pointed ends on that coat look to be more in keeping for Halloween to me but what would I know being a poor druid man :)
ReplyDeleteHaha ……. I'm a bit of a gereatric Goth, Heron !!!! XXXX
DeleteThat is a stunning coat. Not everyone can pull it off, but such style! (And with the hat - perfect.)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I pull it off or not but I shall still wear it !! I've always liked anything that's a bit different and, Catherine Middleton and Sarah Jessica Parker have worn the Alexander McQueen version so, if it's good enough for them. it's good enough for me !! hehe. XXXX
DeletePERFECT!
ReplyDeleteJUST PERFECT.................!!
Thanks ….. I just love it …… XXXX
DeleteCoat > yes ! that's my style ! :)
ReplyDeletePhoto in hat > strucks me on my knees ! :)
In one sentence > I'm in home ... :)
Thanks ….. I shall even wear it when I go to the supermarket !! XXXX
DeleteOh Jacqueline I love your taste in clothing and this is so spectacular and speaks your name.
ReplyDeleteI also love your hat.
I have a very old tweed coat that is as old as the hills and which my husband calls "your Donwton Abbey coat".
I will go shopping for coats with you anytime
Helen xx
Hi Helen,
ReplyDeleteWell, that's very kind of you to say so …. I do tend to like things that are a bit Gothic. I'm afraid I am still living in the 60's a bit. My hat is a bit like the first image which comes from a late 1960's Biba catalogue. It was such a wonderful time for fashion then. I love the sound of your Downton coat and long may you wear it !! XXXX
I thought we were going to see the 17 year old tonight?? I love the pork pie hat, and the great coat and the photo from the Biba catalogue. I loved poking around in Biba as a 16 years old but could only afford a plum lipstick, and I have never forgotten it..
ReplyDelete17 year old next post Rachel !! I LOVED Biba …. I was always in there …. I've still got a Biba jacket { the same one was on The Antiques Roadshow !! } loads of Biba make-up and Biba Eyelashes ! I loved my plum lipstick. We used to sit in there all day on the leather settees and watch the likes of The Beatles, Stones etc walk in. Happy days. XXXX
DeleteSo plum it was almost black. Or so it seemed. Happy days they were.xx
DeleteIt was almost black …. I'm thinking of buying a similar one but, I don't think it would look the same somehow !! XXXX
DeleteJust gorgeous...and i love the hat too, it really suits you.xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb ….. I do love a hat !! XXXX
DeleteIt is a gorgeous coat! You must be quite tall to carry it off. Sadly I couldn't, being a low down bum according to Mike (5 foot nothing).
ReplyDeleteAhwwwww Jessica …… but, when you are shorter, you can wear things that us taller ones can't !! there is always a plus to be found !! XXXX
DeleteLove seeing you in your hat and your coat is wonderful - adore it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much …… I adore it too !! XXXX
DeleteYour coat is stunning Jackie - no wonder you look forward to autumn and being able to wear something as beautiful as that.
ReplyDeleteI love the cooler weather just for that reason !! The older I get, the more I want to cover up !!!! haha XXXX
DeleteHello dear Jackie!
ReplyDeleteIt's So nice to see your very special style coat and your hat by:)))
Looks very stylish but in your own way and SO,SO pretty style!
I mean, not the same what we can see everywhere around-classy...
Yours is free and very playful, sayinguch about your creative nature, beautiful!
I wish you wonderful October, and will send to you my warm greetings,
V.
Thanks Violetta,
DeleteYou are so right …. that coat is SO me …… I love all of the little details…. and thank-you for your kind words.
Wishing you a wonderful Autumn and sending love from the UK. XXXX
I love, love, love your coat! We are having an especially warm (aka non-existent) autumn this year in Provence and I am chomping at the bit to bring out the big guns. I guess that you will just have to do some twirling around for me. :)
ReplyDeleteIt isn't too cold here yet Heather but it's very wet ….. we've had so much rain lately. Actually, for the next few days it's warming up so, the coat will have to go away for a while !!
DeleteAs soon as I wear my coat, I'll give you a twirl !! XXXX
I love it, Jackie...a great coat...I like autumn/winter clothes so much more than summer...cashmere, coats and boots...perfect ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry not to have joined in this month's post...see you in November! xx
I love Autumn/Winter clothes too Catherine ….. there's so much more to them, I think.
Delete…. and, don't worry about not joining in this time …. real life takes over sometimes ! XXXX
This is SO you! I can almost see you walking down the street, looking in the shop windows, buying bunches of flowers. This is MY Jacqueline! I'm trying to figure out how to come to visit London & Paris, just so I can meet some of you guys. Tell me where to stay so I won't be far away from you, Catherine or Simone. Thank you, once again, for being ever faithful to our lovely BY INVITATION ONLY. Couldn't do it without you !!
ReplyDeleteHi Marsha,
DeleteWell, I really like doing our BIO posts. I especially like seeing everyone's take on the given subject.
Hope to see you in London soon. XXXX
I love your coat!! So creative and dramatic. Perfect with your hat!! I see why it would be your essential this fall. Truly wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
DeleteYou know how some women love shes and bags ? …. well, I am obsessed with coats and jackets !!!! That's why I like Autumn/Winter fashion. XXXX
I'd love to see you walking down the street in your favorites . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat a smashing delightful treat it would be . . .
I'm not sure that you would Lynne but thanks anyway !!!! XXXX
DeleteHi Jackie,
ReplyDeleteYour coat is stunning, I love the cut and shape of it. The design makes me think of the flapper style from the 1920's. I'm very fond of Autumn and Winter fashions, more than the Spring and Summer.
Cute hat too! You might like to take a look at the coat brooches that I made. I'm into using fake fur at the moment! ;-)
xx
It is a bit 20's isn't it ? I much prefer the Autumn/Winter for fashion …. probably because I can cover up some of the old bits !!!! XXXX
DeleteJackie you could carry that coat very well. You really have style to carry it off.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy this great Fall weather. Snow will come too soon. yvonne
Don't remind me Yvonne !!! For the next few days we are going to have some warm weaher but, it's not going to be for long !!!! XXXX
DeleteLove your coat Jackie! It's so you. I can see you walking the streets with you boots and hat. You long fair hair blowing in the wind. A fashionable and unique lady!
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening!
Madelief x
I think that you are being too kind Madelief !!! ….. I do love a nice coat though !!
DeleteWishing you a lovely evening too. XXXX
Dear Jackie,
ReplyDeletethat is a lovely, lovely coat! Which colour has it?
I love autumn fashion too - at the moment I just start changing my wardrobe (didn't I pack those chests just yesterday? Out again..) I love colourful coats in autumn/winter - when November days look bleak, I love to wear my smokey-pink coat. Ah - and last Sunday I bought at the antique market an ocelot-??? mmmh -- don't know the word for it: instead of gloves in older time women wore a sort of little hand-pocket in front of their coat - you put your hands inside (you'll find an illustration on one of the Daisy Dalrymple's covers) - very chic and very warm! Ah - and of course I love hats, caps and toques.
Thanks Britta …… I'm afraid that, like most things in my wardrobe, my coat is black….. I'm not as colourful as you !!!!
Delete… and, the word you're looking for is ' muff ' …… a tube made of fur or other warm material into which the hands are placed for warmth. XXXX
Thank you - it is called "Muff" in Germany too (but I was sceptical to use that because in Germany it has a second meaning: olfactory weird, or bad odour). In Latin the Muff was "muffula" - the glove made of fur. And my muff is oh so wonderful warm - and chic - and has a little pocket for a few coins...
DeleteExcuse me, if I may come in here Jackie, and Britta, but you know I am always wanting to help Britta with her English language skills so I want to say that muff in English also has a second meaning, but it is not offensive, it is for the woman, how do you say it, down below, her little muff. It is not a bad word I am sure you will agree Jackie and a nice, inoffensive slang word.
DeleteI do like your coat so much Jackie, I just looked at it again. And I do miss my plum lipstick but last time I tried some I just looked ghostly or ghastly. That is what age does, oh, to be young again. Love to you both. xxxxx
Hi Rachel and Britta,
DeleteI have told Britta on her blog that muff had another meaning that was a bit rude { I wasn't sure if Britta wanted me to explain it on her blog !! } but you have explained it so nicely Rachel…. much better than I would.
…. and, I so agree about the plum lipstick. I look awful, as if I've got some sort of heart disease !!! Love back. XXXX
Thank you Jackie. I took a while to find the right words! I am not in touch with Britta directly so I am pleased that you have been able to pass on my, not sure what to call it, language help!
DeleteRachelxxxxx
always spot on fashion wise...i love that coat..
ReplyDeleteHey Cynthia …. how good to hear from you …. you have obviously been very busy which is great. I can imagine that my coat is right up your alley !! XXXX
DeleteI can almost see you riding side-saddle in that coat accessorised with a top hat and a whip - perfect.
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine,
DeleteThanks so much for popping in.
If I could ride, then I would certainly wear my coat whilst doing it !!!! ….. but, I do have the top hat …. I'm not telling you if I have a whip !
Have a great week. XXXX
You are so stylish Jackie; beautiful inside & out. I thought it was about time I dusted off my keyboard and found out how you are. I hope all is really well with your entire family. Mr Henry must be so old by now and growing cuter by each month. Thinking of you and sending you all my very best from this side of the UK. xxoo
ReplyDeleteHi Deb,
DeleteHow lovely to ' see ' you !! Henry is nearly 4 and he now has a sister called Martha !!
I do dip into your Facebook page now and again, to see how you are getting on up there in Edinburgh. Hope you are all well and get a chance to see your grand-daughter.
Will send you an email soon. XXXX
Jackie, it's perfect . . . and perfectly you! I love All Saints. They make such versatile and wearable clothing.
ReplyDeleteI've been popping in lately to catch up on your posts. Am gradually re-immersing myself in the blog world again, which is good, because I missed it something terrible!
Sending love,
Gigi xo
Hi Gigi,
DeleteI'm so glad that you are back in the blogging world again …. I've missed you.
I have been an All Saints fan for many years …. it is my Biba of the 21st Century !! I don't think that they are as edgy as they used to be, well, not at the moment anyway, but, I have so much of their stuff, I need another piece like I need a hole in the head !!!!!
Will be over to see you soon. Lots of love Gigi. XXXX
That coat is you ~ love the hemline! I can see why you would pick it ~ of course it is the only coat you will keep and give the rest to charity ~ yes? Bahahhahahhaa ~ did your heart do a little flutter there ~ hugs to you my friend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Lori …… Oh God, don't do that to me !!!!! I LOVE my jackets and coats … they are my friends !!!! haha XXXX
DeleteL'automne est chic dans tes pages , tellement plein de charme !
ReplyDeleteMerci beaucoup Christelle. XXXX
DeleteI'm not surprised that coat is your Autumn necessity, its divine! So good to be different!
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you saw....I got round to wearing a corset? Wow! It did amazing things!
Lots of love, Vikki, XX
I do love my coat ….. I love All Saints but, not so much at the moment. They seem to have lost their quirkiness lately. I saw you in your corset, you medieval hussy you !!!! I used to wear corsets a lot but, once over 60, the flesh got all floppy and they don't look quite so good anymore !!! haha. You're OK though,…..you're much younger than me. Enjoy wearing them. XXXX
DeleteOh Jackie dear,
ReplyDeleteI hear you with loving this season we are entering, I love Fall through Winter and that new coat of tours is divine. Love that hem line very much like days of Fleetwood mac and the handkerchief hem lines of their gypsy like clothing.
By the way talking about style, you my friend have hit the nail on the head of style here. I too love your dreamy style and all you inspire here in all it's rustic charm.
See you soon dear, and thank you for taking the time to visit me while visiting your comments always joy my days.
Xx
Dore
Oh Dore,
DeleteThank you so much for your lovely comment and many thanks to you too for supporting my blog. You have brought back many memories by mentioning Fleetwood Mac …… I saw them live before Stevie Nicks joined them !!…. that's how old I am !!!
Have a lovely weekend Doré. XXXX
...and you my dear, must look absolutely smashing in that coat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you and hats are amazing together, no matter which style you choose my dear. I love the name 'pork pie'
ReplyDeletemuch love...
