..... AND THE REST IS RUST AND STARDUST .....

I think that you all know by now that I like a bit of rust in the garden ! My new acquisition is my rust crown and the plant of the moment is Muehlenbeckia.

Rusty old chair .....

Rusty arch and gates that we bought at Chelsea in 2012 at a very reasonable price which was a bit of a surprise !

Rusty old urn that we have had for ages .....

and a few rusty plant supports.

I did buy this bench, thinking it was distressed but painted and, when it arrived it was VERY rusty ..... I liked the look of it but, nobody wanted to sit on it and ruin their clothes so .....

..... we painted it ..... now it's stardust.

..... although it was a lovely sunny day today, the wind is blowing and Autumn is on it's way.

  1. Many years back when I bought the lions head for my fountain, the lady at the foundry asked if I wanted it rusty or green painted. Of course, I chose rusty.

  2. I have a metal-working friend who tries to incorporate rust to good effect whenever he can, on the basis of 'why fight it?'

    1. So do I Rachel. It rusted so much in the garden that it looked a bit of a state. Some rusty things look nice but that didn’t ..... Hammerite made it look so much better and we can now sit on it without bits of rust clinging to our clothes !!! XXXX

  4. I too have bits of rusted garden decor that I would never paint, especially two iron urns which have now been joined, on the low wall, by two cobalt blue large planter pots - look pretty together.
I do love the bench painted white though Jackie, now everyone will want to sit on it! I would if ever in your lovely garden. The pink roses blowing in the breeze are stunning.

    Here's to Autumn - I'm ready.

  5. Beautiful garden and I have had lots of rust but can't stand to touch it. I love the newly painted bench. I was in London early September once; the weather was beautiful, but I missed the changing fall season. Do show some pictures please.

  6. I LOVE everything you do ! And, finding all this fluff and stuff along your way is wonderful. What you choose to do with it is always amazing.
I would have passed the bench right by. I would have missed something very charming. Sending love, my darling friend.

  9. Your garden looks so lovely, Jackie!
And rusty things can harmonize beautiful (except with clothes when you sit on it...) - it gives the theme of "Everything has it's time", that plants show us in the quick change of the seasons, another twist and turn: taking longer, but "melting" it away in the long run too, the iron...
