IT'S BUCKETING DOWN ..........

England is famous for having lots of rain. In fact, many countries have far more rain than we do but people still have an image of the UK as a very wet place. We haven't had much rain for a while  .....

BUT .....

today we are living up to our reputation !!

It is coming down in stair rods ..... it's freezing cold, the wind is blowing a gale and it's like Winter !!!

I cleaned my knobs and knockers and I got soaked ..... the wind driving the rain into the porch and it looks like an Autumn day .... leaves have been blown everywhere and my David Austin St Swithun rose and Clematis 'Marie Boisselot'   have been blown to bits !!

Our conservatory was leaking { it doesn't look quite as bad as the one above though !! } and I think, because of the wind direction, rain was coming in the extractor fan over the hob in the kitchen ...... it's never done that before !!

Still, you've got to laugh ..... none of it's the end of the world is it ?

The weather is meant to improve next week ..... I hope so. There is much to do in the garden.

Here's hoping that your weather is a whole lot better than ours.

  6. Was that your front porch Jacqueline? It is gorgeous. Got caught in a deluge this very morning and lightening flashing like crazy. All my bags including this one got a soaking. Our problem is, we will go all summer without rain. And, the heat will return for its annual summer season soon. Can't be pleased with weather.

    1. Hi Donna ...... yes, that's my front porch. It's a late Victorian, double fronted house ..... I just had to buy two new bay trees as the others died after 15 years !!
Us Brits do love to moan about the weather but, we are lucky that we don't get the extremes that you get. It's usually warm in the Summer and not too cold in the Winter !
We have been in the States when the heaven's open and it really comes down, doesn't it ? XXXX

  7. In Florida at this time of year, we usually have a lot of rain. It's been quite dry. It's very hot, though, which is also typical of the end of May. By August, I will wish I lived elsewhere. Then October will roll around, and suddenly it will be cool and lovely again. Try to stay dry!

    Love,
    Janie

  9. Jackie, I'm in London - well at Heathrow - this evening and thankfully when we arrived on the flight from Dublin around 5:30 pm the rain had stopped! We walked to the pub near the hotel and luckily it was just breezy and not too cold. After 3 weeks of sunshine almost daily in Ireland - and very warm there the past several days - we are not complaining. Ireland was amazing and the entire country has stolen my heart!

Here's to drier weather for polishing your knobs and knockers next time - haha! We're flying out tomorrow and will probably find a jungle around the cottage as it's been raining a lot in North Carolina whilst we've been gone.

Everyone always laughs when I say that I've been polishing my knobs and knockers !!!!!! Have a safe flight and I look forward to hearing all about your holiday. XXXX

  12. Historically, Paris has always had more annual rainfall than London; but don't mention it to a Frenchman. It's been chucking it down here, and will continue to do so until Sunday. I have to keep draining the pool as the level has become far too high. At least we have mushrooms as compensation.

Just want to say how beautiful your house looked ..... your wisteria is magnificent. .... and you must be enjoying your home now that the work is finished. Our son/daughter-in-law are going through the same thing ..... they are nomads at the moment. They rented a house like you , have been away a few times and are coming to stay with us for a few days while the work is going on ..... still, it will be lovely when it's finished !!!! haha !!

  16. Jackie, you may remember me or not, but as a man of the 50s I try to be a gentleman. However please note that " knobs and knockers" brings a slightly different image to an American male than a door. I apologize for our entire gender!

    1. Oh Nick ...... it's horrible here today as well ..... cold, windy, rainy ...... and, it's the 2nd of June !!!! Should warm up by the weekend though. Our conservatory was added to the house in 1991 by cowboy builders and it leaks all over the place !!!! No sooner do we sort out one leak, then another takes it's place ..... usually when the wind is blowing in a certain direction ...... the joys of owning a period property !!!! Hope the sun stays with you. XXXX

  18. Crazy weather for you there Jackie! But you crack me up with the photos you have posted. I'll bet you that they tell the real story about what you've had. When weather like that hits here and smashes all the flowers flat, I always swear a little (ok, A LOT) and then say to myself "there's always next year.
Thanks Jackie for the best posts ever!!!
    love to you my dear!

  20. Here in Berlin the sun shines and cries "Hot town, summer in the city!" - while other parts of Germany are awfully flooded (some people died) - so: very disturbing weather changes on the whole. Hope you can change to the Beatle song "Good Day, Sunshine!" now! XXX Britta
