BY INVITATION ONLY .......... MY SYMPHONY ..........

I was asked, among many others, to join ' By Invitation Only' ..... a group who will post monthly on given subjects.
The first given to us is My Symphony ..... a short quotation by William Henry Channing and here is my humble contribution ..........

To live content with small means;

to seek elegance rather than luxury,

refinement rather than fashion;

to be worthy not respectable,

and wealthy, not rich;

to listen to stars .....

and birds,

babes and sages, with open heart,

to study hard; to think quietly; act frankly, talk gently,

await occasions, hurry never;

in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common - this is my symphony.

                                              My Symphony

To  live content with small means;
to seek elegance rather than luxury,
and refinement rather than fashion;
to be worthy, not respectable,
and wealthy, not rich;
to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages,
with open heart;
to study hard;
to think quietly;
act frankly,
talk gently,
await occasions,
hurry never;
in a word, to let the spiritual,
unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common - this is my symphony.

William Henry Channing

  1. Hello Jackie:
    We have so enjoyed reading and looking at this highly creative symphonic post. Your images, which have so obviously been chosen with care, so closely reflect the words of William Channing as well as, we feel, giving to them additional meaning. This is a post which requires more than one 'reading', and is one to which we shall certainly return.

    Ooooh! I loved all your lovely images, especially the top-hat and the sunlight streaming through that fabulous window, and the beach scene. And then I loved..loved, LOVED your own words at the end!

  6. Hold on now. It's all beautiful, especially the little girl on the suitcase, wearing a hat her loving mother surely made for her, but I'm not sure about being worthy. I know worthy people and I cross the road when I see them coming. I wonder what worthy means, and where one buys worthy cushions to put up a worthy front?

    And I do like your own irreverent addition, endorsed by your lovely photo!

  24. Oh Jackie, you do it do well, every time! Such a beautiful post.. Every image speaks volumes. You are the perfect candidate for this very select group!

    Thanks for your comment! On the mannequin front, I saw two at Bentalks in Kingston, new, but vintage looking. I considered but decided to look around a bit more. There are quite a few UK websites for them as well.

    Speaking if antique fairs... Any you can recommend?

    Best wishes Jackie...
