THERE'S SNOW PLACE LIKE HOME .......... Ho Ho Ho..........

The whole of the UK is covered in a blanket of snow and we are experiencing Arctic conditions........and, when this happens, everything comes to a grinding halt and, havoc ensues !! I, for one, hibernate close to the fireside, drinking tea, coffee, hot chocolate during the day, soup for lunch and then move on up to wine in the evening !! Life stands still somewhat while we keep warm and think about Christmas.

This gorgeous Georgian house ( somewhat out of focus I'm afraid ) is the home to offices now, but what a lovely place to work..........

This is St, Mary's church, just around the corner to where we live.  It was built in 1418  and contains Cromwell's family vault. A medieval stone coffin was recovered from the church in 1872, when it was found being used, inverted, as a doorstep !!!!

This is the entrance to the cemetery, located in my road. I find cemeteries really interesting ..... make of that what you will !!!! ..........

Here is the view from my landing......you can just about make out the snow ..........

Seedheads in our garden ..........

On Monday, I went out for lunch with the girls ( I do venture out sometimes when it snows ). I took this and the next  four shots from the back seat of my friend's car ( I was lucky not to be the driver and polished off a bottle of Sauvingon Blanc at lunch !! ). We drove through Epping Forest and it looked so beautiful........... much more beautiful than a couple of snaps taken whilst going at speed !
Epping Forest was where Henry V111 and Elizabeth 1st hunted and, the highwayman Dick Turpin had a hideout there. It is also very popular with murderers as a place to hide a body unfortunately.

There are still traces of Autumn leaves left on the trees .........

Well, I shall away in my beautiful sleigh, to buy Christmas pressies, higher tog duvets, hot water bottles and a crate of red wine.

It's freezing.

  1. Jackie, your coping strategy for snow sounds like fun to me. The snowy images are lovely but I like my snow in small amounts as it creats chaos here as well. I love taking photos of old cemeteries too. merry♥O

  3. Hello Jackie,
Creep but conveniently close to the heater with a glass of red wine ...
My advice is to stay indoors and not at all go back to the bush where the bandits are .. brrr ...
    Good weekend

  12. Dear Jacqueline, Why is it that a mere dusting of snow in the UK brings the country to a halt whereas permanently subzero temperatures and mountains of snow in Eastern europe and life carries on pretty much as usual? I wholeheartedly endorse your way of coping with the snow and am at one with you except that I fear, for me, the wine starts a little earlier in the day!!!

  13. LOvely post Jackie! I think you have arrived at the perfect solution to the snowy days..hibernation. Glad you did venture out with the girls though, we can't be comepletely bearlike...
    Your curtains are beautiful too.
    ENjoy a cozy weekend,
    Mimi

  14. You need some Canadians to help you dig out of that snow..........though sometimes grinding to a halt is even better. I love snow storms and the hibernating, as long as i have enough groceries and other things. Much love XO
    Your photos are great!

  15. Hi Jackie,

Your village looks very pretty with all that snow. I think I understand what you mean about cemeteries. They are very peaceful places, full of old trees & wildlife. With a layer of snow they look very 'Gothic'. When no one is being burried I don't mind walking around at all.

    Wish you a happy weekend!

    Lieve groet, Madelief

  17. Hello! It's rather lovely isn't it? Snow is great if you are where you want to be and have everyone who matters with you! I agree on the tea/soup/wine diet - it's a winner. Love that image of the snow queen - Tilda was made for that role. Lou xxx

  32. Beauiful shots of your chandelier crystals and out your landing window....most people would not even know what a landing is... (but I do )...had one in the Victorian home I grew up in...in Chicago.
I too love Cemeteries.....especailly the Victorian ones.. (and I bet you have some DANDY ones in the UK )
I adore the HUGE ornate tombstones, etc. There is one in Galveston, Tx. that is quite nice...but the Victorian Section of Crown Hill Cemetary in Indianapolis, Indiana...is one of the best I have seen, and if anyone knows of others, I would LOVE to know about them.
Jackie, your idea sounds great, to sip some tea..and hot chocolate and sit before the fireplace.

    ENJOY !!

  35. Love your gorgeous photos and would dearly love some snow here. Our family is expecting our Aunt to fly out from the UK tomorrow for our Mum's 80th Birthday Surprise. At the moment she is stuck at home and not sure if she will be able to catch her flight to our very hot 36 degrees so I hope it's stops snowing over your way for just a little bit so my Aunt can fly out. 42. How beautiful! I loved seeing the snow. It does look like Christmas there. We usually don't have snow here in Oklahoma for Christmas but did last year...and it was magical yet treacherous. People were stranded everywhere. Including myself...luckily I was stranded at home...but could not make it out to go to my Christmas dinner.

I loved the photo out you window...really...loved it all.

  44. Your pictures are beautiful. I love your strategy for coping with the cold and snow. However, you might want to have a little wine with lunch as well...it will help keep you warm until evening. I am also fascinated with old cemeteries. People do charcoal rubbings of old headstones then frame them.
We have been colder than normal here in southern California too. Good for the Christmas spirit.

  62. And now I shall always think of you as the Snow Queen, Jackie! :D I love this post--the pictures and the thought of being snowed in. Here in New England we usually get snowed in several times over the course of the winter until we are all sick to death of the stuff, but that first real snowfall of the year is always a treat.

It's sooooo good to be back here visiting you! I've been swamped with work and life lately and am just starting to get back to visiting my favorite blogs. Hope you are well! xoxo Gigi

I often read your blog I love looking at the beautiful pictures. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the picture of the georgian house and suddenly realised that it was the one directly opposite where I live. It made me realise how lucky I am to live where I do. Although it would be much nicer to live in the georgian house instead of my little cottage.
