Having had that bit of pointing done to the house, we have tarted up the porch with new terracotta pots, yew balls { would have used box but, with box blight and moth rampant, yew is a better bet !!! } and have spruced up the front door with white spirit and Briwax .....
..... and, I have repainted the side gate, stencilled our house number and added a brass wreath ...... I have secured it with wire and just hope that nobody steals it !!! If they do, I shall stencil one on !
..... and finally, a bit of Autumnal colour in our garden .....
..... Claire Austin rose .....
..... Hydrangea paniculata Vanille Fraise .....
..... Lace-cap Hydrangea .....
..... and, finally, Nicotiana and Salvia ' Black and Blue ' .....
A short and questionably sweet post but far quicker on the back of the last one than normal for me !!!!! There's blogging hope for me yet, even after 12 years !!!

Love the “tarted up” the front porch . . . (love your words)
ReplyDeleteTerracotta vessels . . . (interesting about boxwood/moth/etc.)
I like the yew balls, front door, side door embellishments.
And what you accomplish with a bum elbow/arm is perfect.
And then the flowering . . . oh so lovely . . .
Thanks Lynne ….. I’m afraid the box blight/moth is killing most of the box in the U.K. … they are producing plants that are resistant to it but I’m not sure if they are available yet. A good sized box is REALLY expensive so yew is a safer bet ! XXXX
DeleteI recognise the calligraphy of No. 14...
ReplyDeleteI think it’s a well used font, suitsble to our house. XXXX
DeleteI like the idea of you stencilling a wreath on the door in place of the real thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel ….. I thought the artists amongst my blogging friends might have thought stencilling was cheating and that I should have done it free hand. I do have quite flowery handwriting but I think it can look amateurish in a situation like a house number, do you ? XXXX
DeleteI am a great fan of stencilling and often use it for lettering in my work. xx
DeleteI love a bit of stencilling. XXXX
DeleteYou've designed a beautiful front porch and entry. Your two pots with perfectly rounded yews are very lovely (what fun you will have decorating the yews for Christmas). The gate looks elegant as well. The flowering in your garden is to perfection. Like you, I greatly appreciate well designed and beautiful surroundings.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Susan ….. Little fairy lights will adorn those yews at Christmas ! XXXX
DeleteI love a bit of stencilling ! XXXX
DeleteOoops ….. I replied in the wrong place …. Doh !!! XXXX
DeleteIt does look rather splendid xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks JayCee …. not everyone would like it but I think it suits our house. XXXX
DeleteI've been thinking of buying new brass numbers for my house in Brighton, but I like the idea of stencilling even more. Where did you find the stencil?
ReplyDeleteI’ve had the stencil for years. I bought a sheet of numbers 0 - 9 and the No and Anno. I got it from The Stencil Library. They will make just your number if you ring them and tell them what you want …. shame you are not nearer ….. you could borrow mine ! If you don’t have any luck, when you come over to live, I’ll send you my sheet of numbers if you like. XXXX
DeleteI do know a place in Brighton that sells such things. I'll visit them. I suppose I could even do it freehand. Thank you for your offer.
DeleteGorgeous! Such lovely touches here and there
ReplyDeleteThanks Z …. I love what you do so that’s a compliment. XXXX
DeleteYum, yum!! It's looking so delicious! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Pip ….. the front of our house looks so much tidier now ….. Walter Waller, the man who built our house in the late 1800’s , would appreciate it, I think !!! XXXX
DeleteDitto !!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteDear Jackie, what a beautiful sight! The door is stunning - and the brass wreath will remain, I am sure - expect the best and you often get it.
ReplyDeleteThe rose, hydrangea and other blossoms: so beautiful! Sorry that one has to change from box to yew (the box son has in his garden is corroded too) - I "bathe" in the smell of box in the sun, it makes me so happy! XXXX
I love box Britta but it’s now pointless as it will definitely die and it is too expensive to risk ! So sad your son has lost his …. Even Monty Don has had to dig all of his up ! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. … it makes all of the hard work ( with a broken arm ) worthwhile. XXXX
DeleteBRAVA YOU HAVE BEEN A BUSY BEE!
ReplyDeleteI HAVE ALL THOSE PLANTS YOU SHARED WITH US!!!!
XXX
Hi Elizabeth ….. your garden is beautiful so it’s good to hear that you have plants that I have !!! I have been rather busy …. A bit too busy as my arm is hurting a bit ….. hopefully it will feel better after resting it for a while ! XXXX
