EVEN STEVENS ..........

Having done a few posts about my Dad, I thought I should even the score with one about my Mum.
Here she is in her ATS uniform. She learnt to drive in the ATS and drove before my Dad did and she knew much about the maintenance of a car too.

During the war, my Mum and Dad wrote to each other everyday, sometimes twice. We have all the letters. The above photograph shows only about a months worth !!!! I have read some but it feels like a bit of an intrusion so I don't like to read them really although, there is a lot of social history amongst them which is interesting.

A photograph of my Dad in one of the bands he was in !
This is as much a test of using the new Blogger rather than a history of my Mum. I  found out today when doing a new post that I am now
forced to use it !!! So far, I am working it out, apart from aligning the script !!! Any help with that will be gratefully received ! Haven't worked out how to preview either ..... when I click on Preview, it just goes to a picture of my header and nothing moves ..... I guess it will all become clear in time ! { can't seem to add labels either ! }
I also seem to have lost my JACKIE at the bottom of the page !
In the meantime, until I find it again, please accept my trademark four kisses.

XXXX

  1. How lovely to have all those letters. Like you, I would be tempted to read a few but then feel I was intruding. Your mum looks great, the second photo she looks like she's in a film! And great to see your dad in one of his bands. As for blogger, the alignment is there on my menu bar next to the smiley face thing for adding characters, and there is a drop down box. Your name appears eventually after a few line spaces that you could delete to bring it upwards! Rachelxxx

    1. There are thousands of letters Rachel. That photo of her on a boat is a nice one of her.
Thanks for the help with alignment .... I think I did click on it but it didn’t do anything ! ... and .... I noticed my name had appeared but doesn’t show when writing the post ! It’s probably me but, I’ll get to grips with it ... I’m shocked that I actually posted something 🤣. XXXX

    2. This can be helpful...Before I began Doctor Aziba natural penis enlargement Product I measured 4 Inches in erect length, and 3 inches in erect girth. While flaccid I measured 3.4 Inches long. I began using his product, slightly skeptical I admit, and just 2 weeks later I was very happy with my progress. I measured 7.5 inches erect length and 6.5 inches erect girth, and 5.5 inches flaccid length. I was actually quite shocked at the huge gains I’d had, and continued using the product regularly, sticking to the usage schedule rigorously. After about 2-3 weeks I am 8.2 Inches in erect length and 8.1 Inches in erect girth. I am also 7.2 inches long while flaccid. This has had a huge impact on my life, not only has my sex life improved greatly, I feel much more confident and proud. Dr Aziba Natural Penis Enlargement works! and you can as well reach out to him on any of these cure for ALS, HPV, HSV, HIV, HERPES, Virginal Infection, Heart Burn, Cancer etc... 2. Great pictures. I'm amazed you still have all those letters.

I'm not keen on the new blogger either. I totally understood the old one, and I'm now finding the new one awkward. No doubt we'll get used to it.

    1. Seeing that my Dad even kept every broken watch strap that he had ever had, letters were high on the list to keep Cro 🤣🤣🤣.
Like you, I was very comfortable with old Blogger and now we have to get used to this new one .... I’ve never been keen on change ! XXXX

  3. This is such a lovely post. What beautiful parents you had.

  4. These are very nice photos of your parents. The numerous letters are a real statement to the love they had for each other. You must be the keeper of family photos, records and history. I seem to carry this role too.

    1. Actually Susan, everything that’s left of our Mum and Dad are spread between my sister and me. My sister is the archivist of the family and has done the family tree. We seem to have about half each of the things that are left. XXXX

  5. You've still got your fairy dust that chases the cursor around the page, so you've basically nailed New Blogger! ... This a lovely post, and your mother looks so poised on the boat. Beautiful! Your collection of letters is fodder for biographers, maybe one day someone in the family will comb through them for a memoir, if you couldn't do it. You're hanging onto treasure there!

It makes me wonder how these sorts of memories will be kept in the future. Will our descendants treat our electronic missives with the same fondness, printing them out to tie them up and keep in a safe place, or just loading it all on to a USB stick and sticking it a jewellery box? Am I hoping for too much, hahah? Do we leave a similar trail of crumbs of our social history today beyond memes and butchering of the language to dash off a text or tweet or emails? The world has really changed!

  6. Haha ! I think I saw fairy dust on someone ‘s blog about ten years ago and managed to work out how you did it ! I know what you mean about the letters ..... they are full of social history. Trouble is, I don’t think that the younger generation are as interested as past generations. Everything moves on so quickly now doesn’t it and they don’t seem to look back anymore. My sister was going to give the letters to a museum but , maybe my Mum and Dad wouldn’t want the world to see them ! XXXX

  8. Well, Well . . . I love a woman who takes life on!
    You go girl . . .
Yes, I too noticed that no longer did I have a choice of the old . . . so on with the new blogger
I am sure we will ease into it all, eventually!

Loved the photos of your mom . . . and dad.
    So pretty she is . . .
(Wouldn’t you love to be listening, or dancing, with your dad playing the music.)
And the letters . . . some things are just so difficult to toss.
Your photo is certainly a visual testimony of love, absence, communication, faithful, hope.
And I do hope mom and dad lived together beyond their “during the war” separation.

I was wondering about what things to keep the other day.
Like journals . . . oh my, not sure I want anyone reading my passages/laments.
    And where do I toss them . . .
I better get busy with my tossing, death door is closer than when I was a teenager, young adult!

I think you presented a stellar addition into the new blogger age. Carry on . . .

    1. I guess we will get used to the new Blogger Lynne.... we’ve got to 🤣
I forgot to mention that my mum was a singer.
My mum died in her late 70’s and my dad died when he was 91 so they had a lot of time together after the war. XXXX

  9. What a treasure trove you have in those letters, Jackie, and the photos are wonderful. I'm sure the Imperial war Museum would be very interested in the content of the letters.
Like you, I'm finding the new blogger frustrating, the spacing seems to have a mind of its own no matter how hard I try to organise it on preview and I'm left with all manner of gaps.

    1. It was amazing, how many letters they wrote to each other. There are boxes and boxes of them. I think my sister said she might take them somewhere like the Imperial War Museum but I keep wondering whether or not they would have wanted lots of people to see them ?
Blogger seems somewhat temperamental ..... I can’t get it to do Preview ! Hopefully it will get easier ! XXXX

  11. The new blogger was much worse when it first started - they fixed a few hitches - especially with posting and increasing picture size.

How wonderful to have those letters. Many families have turned letters into books to be able to keep them.

    1. Hi Sue and thanks so much for commenting
..... I’m glad that I didn’t even try the new blogger in its infancy !!! It’s not too bad is it ?.... just need to get used to the changes .... I’m not overly keen on change !
The letters are a treasure trove of social history ..... my sister is the archivist so she will probably get something done with them ... a good idea to turn them into a book ..... and then maybe a mini series after which Steven Speilberg might want to turn it into a film 🤣🤣🤣 XXXX

  13. Dear Jackie, I love the photo of your Mom! They were very powerful and able women those day, and had to be.
As to the new blogger (which I started early): I could not use "preview" for quite a long time -and though Rosemary tried to help I could not use it - and then, one day: suddenly it worked - a mystery, but a good one.
Hope you will experience the same.

    1. Thanks Britta .... the women of my mums generation really did work hard. My grandmother worked ‘ below stairs ‘ a la Downton Abbey and she could never understand why I liked the old Victorian fireplaces as she had to clean them !!!
I think the new Blogger is sorting itself out now ! XXXX

  15. Its a pleasure for me to write this testimony about how i got my Genital Herpes simplex been reading so many comments of some people who were cured from various diseases by Dr ubarlo but i never believed them. I was hurt and depressed so I was too curious and wanted to try Dr ubarlo, then i contacted him through his email when i contact him, he assured me 100% that he will heal me, i pleaded with him to help me out. My treatment was a great success, he healed me just as he promised. he sent me his medication and ask me to go for check up after one weeks of taking the medication. i agreed with him i took this medication and went for check up a , to my greatest surprise my result was negative after the treatment, i am really happy that i am cured and healthy again. I have waited for 3weeks to be very sure i was completely healed before writing this testimony. I did another blood test one week ago and it was still Herpes negative. so i guess its time i recommend anyone going through Herpes HSV-1 or HSV-2, HIV, HPV, Hepatitis B, Diabetes, Cancer reach him through Email drubarlohome@gmail.com OR add on whatsapp +2348119508814
