DECK THE HALLS ..........

Christmas decorations are completed. I have gone for a smaller tree this year ..... I have been doing the same thing for about 40 years so wanted something a bit different. I have also gone a bit minimalist and just have lights and candles on the tree ! A bit Scandi.  I might even go smaller next year !
Is this what we do, the older we get ?

See the candles in the candle holders ? They are LED ! They were £28 for ten candles and you got 20 batteries as well { unfortunately, not Duracell Tom !!! } I mean, how good was that ? Plus, they came with a remote. You can have them constant or flickering, bright or not so bright and you can have them on a timer ..... all for twenty eight quid AND, I ordered them on the 17th of December thinking they probably wouldn't come before Christmas and they arrived on the 19th ! I was most impressed. Knowing my luck they will probably stop working tomorrow 🤣😂🤣 I have to say that I have always been a purist when it comes to trees and candles and love the real thing but, with grandchildren running around, real lit candles are a bit of a danger and these LED ones are pretty realistic and you can leave them and know you are not going to burn the house down !

  7. It maybe smaller, but it is just as tasteful and elegant as always, Jack@. H.I. bought non-Duracel batteries for our crappy little string of lights which were bought from Poundland a few years ago. We only use good ones for really important things, like the TrackPad, torches, watches and rabbits...

    1. That's very kind Tom but it was pretty easy ..... just a few fairy lights and candles. I like things a bit more simplistic these days. I think that's the way to go with batteries ..... the more expensive and long lasting ones for the most important ...... especially the rabbits 🤣. XXXX

  8. Dearest friend, how absolutely beautiful and perfect, your tree, the new conservatory, and that stunning corner in your lovely home. You have made it so calm and welcoming, I love it all - including the historic portrait with the contemporary light bulb, stone finial and that great chair. Safe lights such as these are awesome..........and those beautifully wrapped packages!
The other photo is most likely your mantel, right? Love it too.
Jackie, many thanks for leaving me a comment. I'm doing better after these weeks of being under the weather, so now hoping to enjoy Christmas quietly but with the decorations I was able to manage - and now getting into some baking.
Hoping things are going better for you all - Bob and I think of you so much and pray the coming year will be kind. I'm hoping to get back to more writing/blogging and look forward to seeing you here.
Have a Happy Christmas with your family.
Much love, Mary & Bob XOXOXO

    1. Oh Mary,
I'm so sorry to hear that you have been poorly .... it's so good to hear that you are feeling a bit better. I thought a smaller tree would be easier for me and, I think I prefer it. I also like just having the lights and candles on it and that also makes life easier !!!! I'll show the rest of the conservatory/kitchen in the New Year. I'm afraid that things won't get better but I will be trying to work some things out in the New Year.
I shall definitely be reading your blog and commenting.
Everyone is coming here for Christmas so it should be nice.
Wishing you, Bob and all of your lovely family the merriest Christmas and more wonderful times in 2024.
      Sending lots of love. XXXX

  9. Your tree looks very elegant, dear Jackie, and if I wasn't so wedded to my riot of colourful ornaments jammed on our tiny "traditional" tinsel tree, I should covet yours! The corner of the conservatory looks like a magazine spread - very stylish.

I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas together and hope the New Year brings just what's needed. Lots of love from me to you. xx

    1. That is so kind. I was really pleased with the tree this year. It was called a Fraser Fir which is more compact so doesn't spread out everywhere and take up a lot of room so I think I will get the same next year. It was a nice shape as well. XXXX
