A few weeks ago, I went to Sadler's Wells to see the English National Ballet ' Lest We Forget '.
Winner of the South Bank Sky Arts Award 2015, Lest We Forget is a poignant reflection on World War 1, featuring three works expressing the experiences of those who fought in the war and those who stayed behind.
It is beautiful and haunting, with contemporary and electric music and a score by Liszt, recorded voices from the Imperial War Museum and Dylan Thomas poems. It paints a picture of women working in factories, men fighting in the trenches, men falling and their women suffering loss .
You may think that it sounds depressing but, it was exhilarating as far as such a subject could be ..... Lest We Forget stays with you long after the curtain drops.
Don't forget to pay your respects and hold the silence at 11.00 am today to remember all who have fought and are fighting for freedom and peace.
WE MUST NOT FORGET

I shall be at a nearby village; see my page. That show looks very dramatic, I'd like to see it.

ReplyDeleteI would love to see and listen to . . . Lest We Forget . . .
You would have loved it Lynne. XXXX
DeleteI wanted to see this but could not get away to London. It sounds so poignant, and I do love both Liszt and Dylan Thomas. Both give me goose bumps. We must never under value our freedm or those who did their all to give it to us. x
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness LeeAnn ..... you would have been bowled over by it. XXXX
DeleteOh, Jaqueline, that show sounds wonderful. My opinion is that WWI was the most terrible, but then, aren't they all. Maybe the younger generations will one day learn the lessons of war and do everything to prevent it. The leaders should have to slug it out instead of the young men and women.
ReplyDeleteHow right you are Donna ..... and I hope that we will always remember all those that gave their lives. XXXX
DeleteWow, this looks powerful.

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Jackie, My word the photos were so evocative. I know when I speak to my mother, Phyllis who is 85 years old and my mother in law, Sadie who is also 85.... the stories they tell are so moving. Sadie told me the story of when she and her sister were evacuated out of Newcastle because of the bombing. Sadly the family they boarded with were not very nice to them, which is so sad, because they were given no choice, they had to leave their mother and father.... it was a very hard time for all.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, we must never, ever forget.
Best Wishes to you.
Daphne
Hi Daphne,
DeleteThanks so much for leaving a comment. It's so lovely that your mum and mother-in-law can relate these stories { even though some of their recollections are not so nice } What a difficult time they must have had with the not very nice family who were meant to look after them..... I just can't imagine how they could have been so unkind. My Mum and Dad and in-laws are all gone now an I wished I'd asked them even more. XXXX
Love from me Ria ❤️❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteThanks Ria. XXXX
