THE BELLS ..... THE BELLS ..........

I guess we all have good things and bad things about where we live. One of the lovely things about where our house is, is that it's a stones throw away from the 600 year old C of E church, built between 1418-1448,  with evidence of an older church on the same site, dedicated to St John the Baptist.
The bells ring out every Sunday and for every wedding { if the happy couple have paid for bells !!! } We also hear them a few evenings a week when they practice and they are rung whenever there is a significant celebration.
I took the above little video at 9.45 a.m this morning, the bells calling people to the Holy Eucharist service { you have to have the volumne up high to hear the bells ! }. I know a bit about the church, not because we go but because our son was a choir boy there. I think I might have told you this but, when he was seven, he came out of school saying the choirmaster had visited asking boys if they would like to join the choir { it was all boys then but they have girls now } and he said he did !!! He went on to get his grades in singing, then a degree in music and now works in the music industry..... he was born with the music gene !
Our garden is going over now but it did look nice in the Spring and Summer !!!

  2. I was listening to James Graham, playwright, on Desert Island Discs this morning and he said he knew he wanted to be a writer from aged 6 and started writing stories Perhaps your son was the same in music. I am glad it all turned out well for him. Your garden looks nice. xx

    1. James Graham has got it spot on ..... Daniel used to pull himself up by holding onto the tv when Top of the Pops was on and dance ! When he was 6, he watched all of Live Aid ! My Dad and my Mum were both musical so he probably got some of it from them. XXXX

  3. We live in a very similar situation. The lovely old church is just a couple of hundred yards away, and we hear the bells quite clearly. We have our back door permanently open during this good weather, and yesterday the bells came indoors loud and clear. Lovely.

  4. Isn't it lovely to hear the bells ringing out Cro ? I always wanted to live in a house where the church was in view ...... much like Father Brown and some houses in Midsomer Murders !!!! We aren't quite so close but it is good enough ! XXXX

  5. Oo, lovely, Jackie! Your garden is so pretty, too. I'm not a church goer but if I lived like you do, I'd probably trundle off when summoned by the bells, just to be neighbourly and soak up some atmosphere. A 600-year old church has some pulling power in my book :) xx

    1. We aren't church goers either Pip ....... it was only our son wanting to join the choir that I became a bit familiar with it ! 600 year old buildings are quite common here as you know ....... Westminster Abbey is 1000 years old ! XXXX

  6. One might conclude that it was the sound of those bells that steered your son towards music. I imagine him stirring in his cot as the bells began to peal.

  7. The church bells have a lovely sound.
Your son knew he enjoyed music at a young age starting with the choir. Isn't it amazing that he was able to follow this path and make a career in music.

    1. It is Susan..... I think his path was mapped out for him in the womb !!! It actually started before that, even before he could walk. He used to pull himself up by the television and sing and dance along to Top of the Pops { a UK music programme } I think many things are born with you and inherited as my Mum & Dad were very musical.
