BORING, UNINSPIRING ARM UPDATE ..........

Sorry to be so boring but there is nothing going on in my life apart from waiting for my elbow to repair !!!
Went to the fracture clinic on Wednesday ..... sat in the grey chair area with about ten other fractures, all of whom were in front of me ..... masks on which mist my glasses up ! Nurse came out and apologised for delay ..... emergency in plaster room ! There were finally three of us left in the grey chair area when a nurse called us all and moved us to the green chair area ! Lulling me into a false sense of security, I was ushered to a consulting room to see the consultant. After about twenty minutes, I saw the doctor. I'm not moaning, I know they are really busy and I am so grateful for the skill that went into repairing the mess that was my elbow after my stupidity of standing on a chair to rescue two bumble bees !!!
Next, avoiding another coloured chair area, I had the stitches out ..... completely painless and another stage completed.
Told to wait in the blue chair area for X-Rays !!! Lovely radiologist asked my date of birth and address ..... she said she lived a couple of roads away from me. Arm had to be pulled and pushed to get a good picture so was a bit painful ..... ouch !
Back to green chair area to see the Doc again. He told me to remove the sling and start to move and use arm and hand..... bit scary as your head is telling you you can't and is remembering when you broke it but, have now straightened my arm ..... not fully as can be seen in the photograph, there is still quite a bit of bruising. The nerve damage in my fingers is the most painful part but that should improve over the coming weeks.
Have a physiotherapy appointment on Friday so that should be fun ..... I wonder what colour chairs they have in the Physiotherapy Department ? Can't wait to find out 🤣😂🤣
If you read this to the end, give yourself a gold star !

XXXX

  2. When I broke my elbow Peter helped me with the physio to straighten the arm by working it like a hinge and pushing it gently a little further each evening. Sounds daft but I could not have done it without his help and I did get my arm fully straight again. xx

  5. These unexpected accidents can certainly cause havoc to our day-to-day lives. At least you are now on the mend and will get back to all the lovely activities you so enjoy. In the meantime, another visit to the cafe on the scenic river Thames to sip a nice beverage and have a meal with a friend or family member(s) would help take the edge off the healing process. Thinking of you and wish I could enjoy the cafe with you.

  7. That's a cracking bruise, Jackie!! It's so true that your brain will tell you not to open your arm right out - things feel so much safer in the sling. But before you know it, you'll be doing up your own bra :) I hope the bumblebees appreciated the lengths you went to ... xx

  12. I can imagine how difficult it must be Jackie - just normal things must be really hard with the dominant arm out of commission! Pull on bras would not work for me either, haha! Thankfully you have a good sense of humour though. Heal soon, be well, and keep your chin up - you are in my thoughts dear.

    1. Hi Mary,
Quite difficult to do lots of things but I just say to myself that others have it far worse. I have two dresses that are the same but different colours that are stretchy and can now get them on and off myself so one in the wash, one on me !!!! Took the dressing off to reveal big scar ( 20 stitches ! ) …. Still lots of bruising and it’s early days yet so I’m pleased with how it’s progressing ( fingers crossed ! ) Hope you are well ( don’t stand on any chairs !!! )
      Gentle hugs back. XXXX
