'I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature, lace always evokes for me those incomparable designs which the branches and leaves of trees embroider across the sky, and I do not think that any invention of the human spirit could have a more graceful or precise origin'

CoCo Chanel - April 29th, 1939

'It is difficult to see why lace should be so expensive, it is mostly holes'

'Yes, but have you any idea how hard it is to get those holes to stick together ?'

Lace makers do it on pillows and usually in pairs !!!!

  3. Hello Jackie:
Such a lovely post containing so many very beautiful images each one, most obviously, carefully chosen together with an appropriate text drawn from many different sources.

Were you ever on Burano, outside of Venice, to see the lace makers at work there? It is more than forty years since we visited the island but it left a lasting impression.

  6. Love the response to Mary Wilson Litle.

Lace is so beautiful. Unfortunately it doesn't suit me to wear, but I can sew with it and collect it from car boot fairs.

Have a lovely lacey week. xx

  13. I love to wear lace however I do not look like the models. I wonder how that first woman got into the upstairs of our old house? We have cobwebs that large and I never go up there. Lovely and charming post, Olive

  14. Hi Jackie,

You have me LOL again! Your last remark and the one by Mary Little just did it!

I love lace too. I am happy to see it is 'in fashion' again this year! I spotted a great dress (1920s feel) in Zara!

    Happy new week,

  16. Have I really missed your last three fabulous posts Jackie...I couldn't believe it. I loved this lacy, lovely post! You got my attention with this one. I love anything frilly, lacy, foofy and fine.
Your garden post was the truest words I have read in a long, long time. Life is so much like a garden. Sometimes I let the weeds in my life get too far ahead of me before I root them out, but finally I am able to rid myself of the clutter and enjoy who I am supposed to be. Thank you for reminding me with that beautiful post.
    hugs from here...
