An embarrassing tag, a little poetic licence but funny !!

Hi everyone. I've been tagged by the lovely Kerry @ A Tranquil Townhouse and the wonderful Maggie @ The White Farmhouse and, I was supposed to show the sixth photograph that I ever posted BUT....... it was just a boring old bed from The White Company and would have been very boring Soooooooo .......... and this is where the poetic license bit comes in .......... I have bent the rules, and am posting the sixth photo from my store of pictures.
Now, this photograph was taken some twenty two years ago when, Mr. Home and I were mere slips of things and looked a lot younger than we do now !!!! Just bear that in mind when you look at the photographs and add a few..... I mean lots....of wrinkles to get a picture of what we look like now, although, my hair has been the same all of my life and Mr. Home has always had a beard but it's a little grey now !!!!
Are you all sitting comfortably ?.......... then I'll begin.
Twenty two years ago, Mr. Home and I were invited to Sunday lunch, with our two children, to our good friends beautiful Victorian home. We had been to their home many, many times and I loved it. A builder had built a whole road of houses in Victorian times and, he built and lived in the one that our friend's lived in, so, he had built this one to the highest spec and with the best of materials, as he was going to live there. Also coming to lunch were some mutual friends from Wales, who were staying with us. Well, we all arrived, drinks were served and we all reminisced for a while. Lunch was served, and we all sat around their beautiful, polished Victorian dining table to a delicious Sunday roast dinner. Now, our hostess was pregnant, which was wonderful , as they had had difficulties and had had IVF, which was obviously successful and, they were decorating the nursery. As we had seen the house many times, our host and hostess took our Welsh friends on a tour of the house. I decided to entertain the children for a while, as I had seen it all many times before. Everyone enjoyed dessert and, after lots of wine, I went upstairs to the bathroom. The room next to the bathroom was going to be the baby's room, so I thought that I would just take a peek at how they were getting on with the decorating and see what it was going to look like....... Oh yes, you know that you all would have done the same !!!! I opened the door and it was pitch black, so I just thought that I would go in a bit further, and then, the next thing I knew, I was up to my ***** on the floor with my leg hanging through the ceiling and, half of the ceiling was now on the floor in the hall downstairs !!!! They had been doing the electrics and had all of the floorboards up !!.... AND, they had just had the downstairs hall decorated !!
Can you see the tinge of red in my face ? Oh, was I embarrassed. If I had gone on the tour of the house with the other's, I would have known what was going on.

Here we are with a cup of tea after the event, so, they were really good about it and, it is still talked and laughed about 'till this day. Our children are now 30 and 28 so, you can see how long ago it was.I had bruises that were black, blue and green for ages.... and limped a bit, for a while !!!! I also didn't have anymore children after that !!!! haha

That has taught me not to be so nosey !!!!

Jackie

  2. Oh the look on your face is priceless! And I certainly don't care that it wasn't the 6th photo posted if it meant we got that story! Be licentious with your poetry any time you like!! Mr H looks a bit of allright as well! Loving the new blog header too Jackie...very elegant, stylish and a touch naughty just like you I suspect. x

  3. Oh my, Jackie. Is it okay to laugh? You poor thing! As they say in the American south, "Bless your heart." You must have been mortified. What a story, and those pictures are priceless. It was a very beautiful home. Are you still friends after all this time? Thanks for letting us in on this little bit of your life and your voyeuristic tendencies. :) Take care.

  5. Great post Jackie, it really made me smile and I can easily imagine it happening here as everyone loves to transform a "wreck" apart from the French that is :-)

DIY is slowly catching on here but it is not as popular as it is in the UK!

  6. My worst fear is getting caught snooping...I am such a curious person. That was a great story. Love your blog. Love your pics. Where do you find so many great pics? Do you photograph all of them? If you do, I love your style. If you don't, I love your taste. Always looking forward to your post.
    P.S.
I can't wait to visit the house that you posted about last month. With all its ghosts and mystery.

  9. This sounds like it would make for a good Woody Allen movie!! I am glad that all was forgiven (although it surely must have been taken as a compliment that you wanted to have a peek at all of their hard work). Glad you were all right but for some bruising!

I could just imagine your friends coming to see what all the commotion was in the hall and finding your legs and bloomers for all to see! I could so see that happening to me! I don't think it would of cured my nosiness though.

You look so lovely and Mr Home is so dapper! You two make a lovely couple! Need updated photos of your children. I can see where they get their good looks from though!

  38. My dearest Jackie,

Great post. I have been so remiss in my visits, but you know in your heart of hearts how much I love you. Great waistcoat. (I knew you would be beautiful btw -- wrinkles have zero importance.)

So weird. The other day in a fit of mid-life crisis angst I changed my picture on my profile, just for fun. I didn't think it would then be picked up as my "official" picture with my comments. (I know, I'm an idiot.) I'm about to change back right-this-minute, but thought I would join you in our youth, just one last time. How inappropriate for "a femme d'un certain age" . . .

My hair has always been pretty much the same color as well. In fact, I have no idea what color hair I have and have no interest in finding out.

    Lots of love,
    Tish

  72. Oh Jackie, you crack me up. I can't wait to tell Dave this story when he gets home tonight. I love a great social disaster story...makes me feel so much more at home with my own shortcomings!

One of my favourite disaster stories happened to a girlfriend of mine. She and her husband were newlyweds with very little money. Her husband had just started a brand new job at a large law firm. They were then invited to a retirement dinner for one of the partners and were keen to make a good impression, but with literally no money to spend, they decided to "re-gift" a sterling silver platter they'd been given as a wedding gift. Around 100 people were there and everyone gathered around while the retiring partner opened his gifts. He beamed when he opened the gift from my friends "How beautiful, how generous" etc......THEN he picked it up and underneath the platter was a "Congratulations on your Wedding" card that whoever had bought the gift originally had thoughtfully tucked inside so the card wouldn't get lost in all the wedding chaos! The partner proceeded to open up the card read it to the entire party. Can you imagine?? My friends still can't talk about it without feeling sick!

    Meredy xo.
p.s. thanks for your encouragement over the last few weeks Jackie. You rock.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments this week, I really appreciate them - so much. And thanks for putting my giveaways on your sidebar, that's great. I love giving gifts, almost more than I like receiving them, so this week has been brilliant :) I wish I could do it every day!
