AFTER the RAIN ..... and a senior moment !!! ..........

This is our Kiftsgate rose scrambling through a tree ... the high winds and rain that we had the other day blew down a bough .....

SO .....

I put them in a jug .....

Aren't they pretty ? .... and the fragrance is amazing.

Do you know what else I did ? After a little look around the garden, I noticed the greenfly were attacking the roses so, I thought that I would attack them back with the bug spray { over the years, I've tried Fairy liquid but it never works for me } I gave them all a light spray but instead of using the bug spray I had used weed killer !!!

D'OH !!!!!!!!!

  1. What a dreadful mistake. Hopefully you didn't spray your Kiftsgate rose. Is there any chance of the plants surviving?

    1. It is lovely Cro but rather invasive but ours scambles up an 80 foot tree !!! It has everything ... prolific, fragrant and pretty but it's not a repeat flowerer. They lasted about five days in the jug ... in fact, they are still there , looking a bit worse for wear now .... they need to be binned !!! XXXX

  4. Not familiar with this particular rose, it's so pretty, and with a lovely perfume is probably an old fashioned one, they are always the best. Sorry you used the wrong treatment - hope so much you didn't kill your roses Jackie - time will tell and I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Did you try washing the weed killer off with the hose as soon as you realized your error?

Love the picture frame made from a tin tile - someone tucked in there is special and adorable.

Have a great week dear - hope the weather improves for you - we are facing a heatwave with daily temps. in the 90's all week and little rain expected - I'll be out with the hoses that's for certain.
    Hugs - Mary

    1. It's not a really old one Mary .... I think it was cultivated in 1938. It really is pretty and smells wonderful.
... and, yes !!! The hose came out straight away and I think they are OK !!!
I thought that you would like the picture frame ... we like the same things.
Weather is lovely at the moment .... clear blue skiies and sunshine but, you know the UK ... we could have snow in a minute !!! haha !! XXXX

  5. How beautiful. I do hope that spray didn't kill it. That rose is gorgeous and smells wonderful? That is a perfect rose. I can't grow them. I've tried full sun, part shade and they always get black spot. I had a clematis once that spread down the fence that had flowers similar to that one.

    1. I hosed everything down Donna so I'm hoping that they will be OK ... they look alright !! Your clematis must have been a picture ... perhaps you should give roses another go. XXXX

  6. It looks like it must be a close relation of the wild rose. A bit of a rambler. Perhaps your weed killer spray was old and has lost all its potency! I took a weed spray to some weeds on the gravel the other day and they all still stand there defiantly. I assumed the weed killer must have lost its power. Here's hoping! x

    1. It is a rambler Rachel ..... I think it is the highest climbing rose there is. It only lasts a couple of weeks but it really is pretty and smells beautiful. I think I washed all of the weed killer off so I'm hoping they will be OK. XXXX

  8. Oh Jackie what a dilemma. It reminds me of the classic insurance claim where bleach is used instead of carpet cleaner. Pity there is not such an insurance for roses. Wishing you a better week xxx

  9. Oh no, Jackie - hope your roses will survive! But I have Kiftsgate too - and she is the most vigorous plant I know! (Can crush barnes easily, if one allows her to ramble on). XXX, Britta

  13. I know the feeling. Jenny was a little generous with the weedkiller on some giant dandelions, and there's now a large patch of totally dead grass which might or might not revive. I hasten to add that I've perpetrated a few gardening calamities myself....
