When I was 17 { 1968 } , I went to Mallorca with my Mum and Dad .....
Very short skirts, showing my knickers {and more probably}, smoking and drinking purple Parfait d'Amour cocktails ...... what a hussy !!! { mind you, it was the 1960's and everyone wore mini skirts }
I just came across this photograph of me and my Dad at the hotel bar ..... what did you wear in your mid-teen's that makes you cringe ?!!!
Update : Ooooops ..... just lost a follower ......maybe they think that I'm a wanton woman !!
XXXX
Ha ha. We used to go to Majorca in the 60's too. It seemed very exotic. The mid-60's was Carnaby Street time; I remember buying hipster Elephant cord trousers that were the height of fashion, and a suede waistcoat, and high collared shirts, all from John Steven (I think). I was the Bees Knees.
ReplyDeleteYes Cro ... John Stephen and I Was Lord KItchener's Valet and Lord John !!! I think that Lord John is now Pret a Manger .... what a come down !!
DeleteWe were all definitely the bee's knee's !!! XXXX
Yes, it was a great year. I was 16. I had a pair of suede hot pants but mostly I was in Levis all the time. I wore the hot pants to a Pink Floyd concert and regretted it. Great photo of you.
ReplyDeleteOh Rachel .... my favourite outfit was grey hot pants and grey suede boots ..... please tell me why you regretted wearing your's to the Pink Floyd concert .... sound's like a good blog post to me !!!! XXXX
DeleteI discovered Pink Floyd fans do not wear hot pants. It was in a small venue, before they were famous, no seats, no where to hide, and I stuck out like a sore thumb in hot pants and boots and at 16 felt very embarrassed. It was also the first time I had seen any form of psychedelic light show.
DeleteAh yes Rachel..... I see how that could be embarrassing at 16.
DeleteI saw Fleetwood Mac { pre Stevie Nicks } at a small venue and The Who ...... they all played pubs and small venues back in the 60's didn't they ? XXXX
Yes, I saw Fleetwood Mac at a pop festival in a field in Essex when I was 17, had an old Triumph Herald so I know I must have been 17, and I saw The Who when I was still at school, in the Tower Ballroom in Great Yarmouth! And they smashed up their guitars!
DeleteHa ha, I was 21, just married, but still wearing mini skirts and have a similar pic with my knickers showing!!! I earnestly wanted a pair of white calf length boots but my finances didn't stretch that far. A good year indeed. (Had some hot pants too Rachel)
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqui ..... when I think back I can't imagine why I would want to show my knickers .... just a drawback of wearing mini skirts I guess !!!! XXXX
DeleteFabulous Jackie and what a great pair of pegs you have too. Judging by the view of the knickers you listened to you mother and wore your best, "God knows you never know if you get in a accident and are taken to a hospital what would the doctors think?"
ReplyDeleteYour father is handsome too. I had a pair of white go go patent booths in the 60's. Talk about the bees knees
Thanks for the giggle
Helen xx
I think that everyone's mum said that Helen ...... you had to look your best even if you'd been in an accident .... as if you'd care !!!! haha !! XXXX
DeleteThanks for the latest up-skirt shot for my album. In answer to your question: camouflage - now all the rage.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Tom !!!!
DeleteI can't remember embracing camouflage .... I remember it but maybe it was more of a ' boy ' thing ? XXXX
Lonely, adolescent boys.
DeleteMini skirts and white boots . . .
ReplyDeleteOh my . . . to think of it now . . .
The 60's were some really good times in the USA . . .
Love your photo with your dad . . . beautiful seventeen you are . . .
We all wore them didn't we Lynne ? ...... it was a bit of a revolution as before that, girls would dress like their mum's, there was no other choice !!!!! XXXX
Deleteand beautiful still . . .
ReplyDeleteYou being overly kind Lynne ..... I'm afraid that it's all heading south ... it comes to us all !!!!! XXXX
DeleteOh Jacqueline, we were in hip hugger bellbottoms and tees and braless in which I can remember older folks eyes popping out. They were probably thinking that we'd regret that one day;)
ReplyDeleteMy bell bottoms were SO wide Donna !!!! ....going bra less now would not look quite so good !!!! XXXX
DeleteI shudder to think what kind of costume I thought was cool. Poodle skirts?
ReplyDeleteYou look so happy and simply splendid. Just like NOW !!!
I think that we all wore some pretty horrendous outfits, back in the day Marsha but, at the time, they were fashionable and cool !!!! I expect that many people will look back to what they wore in 2016 and shudder !!!! XXXX
DeleteSuch a lovely, lovely photo - and both of you so beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I married in 1970 - and my parents had to give their written consent - and no: I was not pregnant - I wore the shortest mini-wedding-dress I have ever seen :-)
For that one lost follower, Jackie, you will gain hundreds with that lovely photo.
I bet you looked wonderful in your mini wedding dress Britta .. You always look wonderful.
DeleteI got married in 1976 .. Mini's were out then and long was in !!!!! XXXX
Gorgeous photo of you both - you look so tanned and healthy. Showing your knickers was always a problem with mini skirts. In 1968 I was eighteen and having the time of my life, I went with friends to a place called Rosas on the French/Spanish border - we had a ball. Smoking, drinking, definitely getting drunk, lots of lovely French and Spanish men it was the year that Sgt.Pepper album came out they were playing it everywhere. Because I am fair skinned I got really burnt and had huge blisters on my chest, like having a double pair of boobs :). This post has brought it all back, those were the days eh!
ReplyDeleteWe all went abroad on our own in our late teens didn't we Elaine ?
DeleteMy friend's and I went to Tenerife ..... There was hardly anything there .. Now it's all hotels and English breakfasts !!!!! We all used to get burnt too .... God knows what it did to us !!! XXXX
I was a lucky girl. When I was 19 I escaped North Carolina and moved to San Francisco at the end of the 60s .. now that was a very good year :)
ReplyDeleteWe need details Candice !!!!!!
DeleteWe went to a wonderful restaurant in Half Moon Bay near San Francisco .... Papa Geogios ..... Don't think it's there now though. XXXX
In 1968 I was 16 and would have traded 10 years of my life for a girlfriend as hot as you. On the hussy note, at least you have knickers on! So I think that rules you out as a hussy , plus I been reading you for what 6 or 7 years and I'm quite certain you ain't no hussy. A fun gal, but no hussy!
ReplyDeleteHi James .... How are you ? Still having fun with those gorgeous grandsons of yours ?
DeleteI am glad that you recognise that I'm not a hussy ..... It's too cold to go without knickers !!!!!
....... And, now at the age of 65, hot doesn't feature !!!!!! XXXX
Fluorescent green streaks in my hair.. maybe I've got old enough to try it again. Now it would be considered eccentric!
ReplyDeleteGo for it Jessica !!!!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteWHITE PLASTIC GO~GO BOOTS!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha ..... I bet you looked brilliant Elizabeth .... They were so the thing to wear at the time !! XXXX
DeleteI was admiring how beautiful you were (you are still!) and scrolled down to read the rest, I hadn't even noticed your knickers were showing until I read it; I went back to look, haha!
ReplyDeleteHot pants with suede boots and a suede belt that had long fringes down the front. The wet-look and black velvet chokers with a cameo make me cringe!
I had to look up the meaning of the word "hussy"; not at all!
Greetings Maria x
At least we didn't show our knickers when we wore our hot pants did we Maria ?!!! I LOVED my grey hot pants and grey suede boots ,.... I got mine from Biba .... Oh yes .... chokers .... I think I've got a photograph of me when I was about 19 with a choker on .... I must find it !! XXXX
DeleteWhat a wonderful photo, Jackie!!
ReplyDeleteIn 1968 I was nine and a tomboy, hating to get dressed up in anything girly. But I had an aunt who wore white mini skirts and go-go boots and I thought that was the best thing ever! xoxo
I, too, was a tomboy when I was 9 Carol .... couldn't stand anything girly ...... that all changed from the age of about 13 !!!!!! XXXX
DeleteGreat photo and what a good looking Dad! I wore the same mini dress when I went back to Texas. Neiman Marcus My Mom was running the Millinery and she
ReplyDeleteasked me to leave the store. I was so upset.
Texas was always behind in Fashion. Canada was way ahead.
Oh Yvonne ..... I bet you were upset. I would have been too !
DeleteLondon was the leader in fashion in the 1960's I think and I was a teenager and lived and worked in London .... really short skirts and hot pants then midi's and maxis .... I wore all of it !!!! XXXX
I was three years than......love what you wear...so young....love this post......happy week love Ria x
ReplyDeleteYes Ria .... so young and you were so much younger !!!! Happy week to you too. XXXX
DeleteI remember several pairs of bell-bottoms that in hindsight looked really naff. And a super-tight pair of jeans that made me look like a rent boy.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha .... rent boy !!!! I'm sure that we all looked brilliant at the time Nick. When any generation looks back at what they wore they probably cringe but, at the time, it was the fashion. XXXX
DeleteHello you hussy! Haha.....I guess we all could have been considered that with those mini skirts and all! I wore pretty much the same things you did, plus bell bottoms, embroidered overalls to name a few cringe worthy things - but I loved them then! Haha. You always make me laugh, Jackie! xxoo
ReplyDeleteHi Cathi ...... have you been over to the UK yet ? .... I miss your posts.
DeleteI think that we all wore pretty much the same and thought we looked wonderful and, at the time, because it was the fashion, we did !!!
I'm glad that I make you laugh Cathi ..... laughter is good ! XXXX
Hi Jackie - we had to cancel our trip this summer due to work - which I was not too happy about, but I've been visiting my children and my granddaughter often - which always makes me happy! We'll be heading your way again hopefully soon as we love it so much! xxoo
DeleteOh, my skirt was then clearly insufficient. I hope after all these years, no one could look so deep. greetings Rosine
ReplyDeleteHi Rosine ..... my shirts were certainlt insufficient !!!!
Delete... and, I too hope that my knickers don't show anymore !!! XXXX
What an absolutely gorgeous picture.
ReplyDeleteWorst outfit EVER for me.....rarah skirt, white canvas boots and a mickey mouse tshirt, respendant with a curly perm!!! Not my best fashion moment!
Hope you are well XX
Haha !! .... Sound's like a really good look !!!! We have all had those moments !
DeleteHope things are going well for you. XXXX
Looooooooooooove that pic, dear Jackie........such a beautiful and cool girl you are! And I love the smile of you and your Dad! In the 60´s I was a little girl, but I remember that even my grandmother was wearing short skirts (but not so short as yours :-)). Thank you so much for your lovely comment and have a wonderful weekend (with your wonderful smile),
ReplyDeleteLove, Jade

That is a great picture of you and your Dad. You both look so happy. You looked very pretty in your white mini dress.
ReplyDeleteIn the Midwest, USA we were sent home from school for wearing our miniskirts too mini, so I never wore very short miniskirts. After school, in summer, our shorts were super short. We wore frosty white or frosty pale pink lipstick and did our eye makeup so we thought we looked like Twiggy. My mom hated "that white lipstick", as she called it, said we looked dead. Did anyone else wear a large metal medallion on a long chain around their neck? Most of my friends and I did. More 1967 - 1968 if I remember correctly. We entertained ourselves by walking back and forth between each others houses, dressed in our short shorts and swingin' medallions. I don't think young teenage girls would survive very long in current times walking around the streets like we used to. Different times, different world.
What I most regret Not Wearing is sunscreen. I'd put lemon juice on my hair, baby oil on my body and go out and lay in the sun, listening to a transistor radio, for as long as my friends and I could stand it. Any day now, all of those sun damage age spots that I gave myself back then, are all going to connect together and look like the suntan I was trying for back in the 1960's, only with a few age warts, or worse, for terrifying texture.
Knowing what I know now, I would have worn my skirts more mini, my shorts shorter, my go go boots more often, my lipstick frostier, eye make up darker, and hair blonder. I didn't realize then that there would never be another time like that one was.
Oh this picture of you and your dad is toooo cute Jackie! I now have tops longer than the dresses I wore in school :))))) I wore them waaay tooo short. And of course there were the short short shorts we wore and in the US they were called hot pants! I laugh every time I see a pick of me from the era.
ReplyDeleteSorry about you loosing your sidebar links...you aren't missing much from me because it seems I have been a pretty bad excuse for a blogger for awhile now :)
Much love to you!!!!
I wore hotpants. Red, white and blue with stars and stripes. I shouldn't have worn them; my legs were like twigs, but, you know, all the girls were wearing them and so must I...
ReplyDeleteThanks to you and your commenters for the walk down memory lane.
The blog are the best that is extremely useful to keep.
ReplyDeleteI can share the ideas of the future as this is really what I was looking for,
I am very comfortable and pleased to come here. Thank you very much!
