NUPTIALS at St. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL ..........

We've just had a wonderful weekend in the City of London as we went to a wedding at St. Paul's Cathedral ...... our second St. Paul's wedding !!! Our first, a few years ago, was my cousin's daughter ... my cousin has the OBE which entitles your children to marry there. This time it was our friend's daughter who was married at St. Paul's ..... if there was ever a wedding venue to symbolise London greatness, it would have to be St. Paul's Cathedral. There has been a church at this site since AD 604 .....

The ceremony is held at the east end of the crypt in the OBE chapel, also known as St Faith's Chapel ..... only the official photographer is allowed to take a few photographs ..... if you are seen taking photographs, you would be ejected from the building, forth with !!!

Me in my hat !!!

The reception was held at The Banking Hall, which overlooks The Bank of England.

The Grade 11 listed building was designed in the 1930's and has a unique Art Deco charm.

This is me, jumping up and down and making a right fool of myself to Lulu's ' Shout ' ..... well, if you don't join in, you don't have any fun do you ?!!!

  1. Lady Magnon and I could have been married there, for much the same reason. Instead we plumped for Gibraltar; very quiet, just as we wanted it. The city's livery halls are amazing. Unless you go inside you have no idea what splendours are behind those big doors. I've not been to The Banking Hall, but I've been to plenty of others, during 'the season' (back in the mid-60's).

    1. I think that my sister and I could have been married there but, we didn't want to !!! We have been in a few of the city's livery halls ... Fishmongers Hall, Drapers Hall ...... we had tours around them and, as you say Cro, they are amazing. XXXX

  2. You are lucky to still attend weddings; I haven't been to a wedding in ages...
You've trimmed your hair a little shorter? Love your hat; it is a very English tradition as we do not wear hats here to weddings. I think wearing hats to a wedding is pretty and very stylish!
    Greetings Maria x

  3. How great to be a wedding guest arriving at St Pauls and walking up the steps and not just a tourist! And as Cro says, the livery halls are amazing inside. It must have been a wonderful day for all concerned. At least I hope it was xx

    1. This is the second St. Paul's wedding that we've been to and, it's very surreal, walking up the steps in all your finery while tourists in their jeans watch you, thinking your famous !!!
The livery halls are beautiful aren't they ? Even the hotel we stayed in used to be a bank !! It was a wonderful day and very special { although, weddings in a church hall are just as special and just as fun } XXXX

  12. We just got back from a whirlwind trip to West Yorkshire, Southport (where we attended a wedding) and then to London to drop off our friends daughter at the Royal Veterinary College. Had a fabulous time and I too wore a hat to the wedding - which I loved as that is not a tradition here. Your wedding sounded fabulous and your hat is gorgeous! xxoo

  13. Oh Jackie you've reminded me of the wonderful day when my friend got married in St Paul's. So many memories for women my age (I'm 56, so the same age the Lady Di would have been). After work on the eve of the wedding (I was at university so this was a summer job) a crowd of us ended up outside St Paul's where workmen were battening down the red carpet. The atmosphere was magical, it never seemed to get dark and I didn't get home until the early hours. I watched the wedding on TV and all I could think was rather you than me. Sadly my friend is no longer married. I was married in Guildford Register office 25 years ago. I adore the Livery Halls too. In my wine and spirit days (1983-87) we used to hold an awards ceremony in Goldsmiths Hall every year. I can remember for my first one wearing an electric blue wool crepe dress (Liberty fabric, Vogue pattern, hand made by me - I used to do a lot of dressmaking back in the day and although my mum was always on hand to help I remember for this dress my flatmate who worked in the wig and hat dept of the Royal Opera House helped with shoulder pad placement and hemming!) with a square of Liberty patterned wool thown over my shoulder and electric blue shoes from Bertie in Covent Garden. All the girls were sent to Harrod's long hair salon to have our hair done - I had a French plait! I love how your blog post brings back so many great memories and hope you don't mind me sharing.
