After a day of exploring the delights of Rye, it was time for the reason that we had come to Rye in the first place. My sister's friend's, Tina and Nigel were having a joint 60th birthday party. They live in Horsham, but have a cottage by the sea in Rye. The cottage belonged to Nigel's aunt, and he and his brother had spent many happy times there when they were children. When Nigel's aunt died, she left the cottage to Nigel.
This is the outside ..........
The cottage is just a long, single story building and Tina has 'shabby-chic'd' her way through it !!
.......... with some lovely little touches ..........

The day of the party was the hottest day of the summer and just perfect for the setting .........
They had had tents erected outside, which were decorated with Indian fabrics, wooden elephant tables and black sofa's with brightly coloured cushions ..........
Near the lake was another, similarly decorated tent , where one could get a nice alcoholic beverage !! I had a few of those, just to be sociable !!!! ..........
That was some party but I am not over those T-shirts! olive
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you were sociable Jackie! What a gorgeous setting and all the details are beautiful. Looks like a fabulous time!
ReplyDeleteOh my, that has got to be one of the most beautiful party settings in the history of party settings! I just really want to go and live in the tent...it's my kind of decorating. The men in shirts crack me up. And I would expect nothing of less of you than to be as sociable as you possibly could be while still remaining standing...although, with that tent it does just cry out for lounging about!
ReplyDeleteWow...Paradise my sweet friend..I can not imagen going to such a lovely party. Thank you for sharing..such JOY and COLOUR!

Oh My, My.. what a place!! Great photos..
ReplyDeleteI envy you (smile)
Julie xx
yes I often have a few drinks Just To Be Sociable of course. That marquee is something else. I find that marquees with all that white and the poles are often very ugly. That is really something else. But there are a few things missing: an elephant, a maharaja, some emeralds to bedeck the guests and you, and lots and lots of incense. What an amazing setting. And love the contract with the windblown grassy setting xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteThis must have been quite a party! It is like something from a fairy tale. The cottage is simply adorable. You are one lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteIn regards to a drink "just to be sociable," you surely know what Ogden Nash said about breaking the ice ("Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker"). In my humble experience there is no greater truth!
Those t-shirts kill me!
xoxo,
Anne
Wow! That was some party! It really all looks like a fantasy world! Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Oh my gosh you lucky duck that is my kind of party. I just loved the set up, everything was so gorgeous....those t.shirts are a crack up!!
ReplyDeleteYeah I just have a few to be sociable too......:o
xoxox
Dear Jaqueline, What a very splendid setting for what I am certain was a wonderful evening to remember. The atmosphere was, I imagine, so reminiscent of the British Raj. My mother, who was born in India, would have empathised with this completely. Your phtographs of both the house and the party tents are so beautifully atmospheric and could easily transport your readers to another world far distant from Rye!!
ReplyDeleteWow! How wonderful! And if you want to ship that blue piece over from the kitchen, go ahead. xoxoxoxox
ReplyDeletehey jackie, that looks like my kind of party.... erection specialists and all!!
ReplyDeletei love it

Ah, I´m completely in love with your blog. Spent many cups of coffee reading through all your posts as I only found you a few days ago. And I´m so happy I did. I was browsing the internet, trying to find an image of "the" kitchen in The delicious miss Dahl, when google directed me to your blog and your post about the beautiful house where the series were filmed! Lucky me!

Wow, how festive! Love that colorful tent and all the trimmings, Jackie. xx
ReplyDeletethis party reminds me of the parties i attended in the late sixties and early 70's on palm beach.
ReplyDeletewowza!!
Wow! Jackie what a fabbo party. YOu sociable thing you! Right - you've given me some ideas for my 40th in September. Where can I get one of them tents from???
ReplyDeleteLots of love I'm nearly back to blogging ...NEarly ;-)
Wow Jackie, what an amazing party this must have been. And your photos are just lovely - love all the little parasols and sofas amongst the dunes. Aren't Indian textiles just so delicious!
ReplyDeleteHOly Crap Jackie your killing me over here!! You lead such a charmed and magical life. Secretly I’m hoping you make this all up and are an overweight spinster with a fag hanging out of her mouth while ironing and munching chips and drinking cheap wine. Too good to be true. This party looks like the bomb babe. Wouldn’t a charming, funny Yank just fit in perfectly? I think so...perhaps next time.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and very interesting blog!!!
ReplyDeleteBig kisses and regards from Croatia.
Zondra Art
Thank you, this was amazing! Keep it up.
